Last time I was in Montréal was November 2021… can’t believe that was 5 years ago. Looking forward to seeing La Belle Province again — and attending VCF Montréal for the first time!

Normally wouldn’t tempt fate like this but I am BEGGING the IT gods to wreak havoc at my company’s SF office in mid-November so I have an excuse to fly out and finally see Eli & Fur perform live 😭

I forgot how utterly exhausting moving is… on the bright side, I’m getting lots of endorphins along with praise from my Apple Watch for the physical activity! 🤠

Our new policy limits student-facing AI use from 2-K through eighth grade, reflecting Norway’s approach: kids need to learn to think critically, use their imaginations, and stay curious.

I don't really know how to navigate this tactfully because cars aren't great in general and EVs remain expensive, but through the power of paying attention, I've managed to notice that electricity costs are so much more stable than the cost of a fuel you buy constantly to set on fire.

Apple… WHY did you remove the handwashing timer from the Apple Watch Series 12. It was literally a godsend feature for neurodivergent people with time blindness like me. This seems like a completely arbitrary decision because every Watch for at least the last 7 years has supported it.

One last (bittersweet) breakfast and get-together with some friends this morning to draw #VCFMW to a close. What a phenomenal weekend this was that went by way too fast. And now, with a frunk and trunk full of gear and a heart full of gratitude, it’s time to pilot my spaceship back to Ohio.

I’m not leaving with much hardware (except for my new PowerBook!) but I’m absolutely leaving with a full heart. This community is so awesome and I’m so happy to have seen both old friends and made new ones. #VCFMW 2026 is one for the scrapbooks! 😊

Lots of fun on #VCFMW day 1! Excited to be volunteering this year, too. 😁

I hate AT&T as a corporate entity otherwise but holy f—k I’m almost saturating my entire 5 Gbps link doing my NAS backups to a data centre in the EU. This is straight-up pornographic for any network engineer / IT nerd….

Going turbo autism mode at the laundromat (I switched to powder detergent so I watched the machine run water through the dispenser to see the powder mix and now I’m sitting in front of the drum and watching the entire wash cycle because I want to observe sudsing and other performance metrics)

I recently got to visit Google’s campus and thought “haha wow they have a sign made of old motherboards, that’s so nerdy and cool!! This is my kind of place!!” Then I see news like this that snaps me back to the reality of how they’ve arguably become the evil that they once vowed not to be.

OK this is incredibly cool. A gamer has created floppy disks of his Steam collection and they act as executables to launch that game.

As I've been getting back into my hobbies / career development more, I'm paying more attention to my network logs. I noticed DNS traffic to Google DNS and Cloudflare 1.1.1.1, which I don't use on my network. I have my own AdGuard instance hosted + configured my UDM to only use it for DNS.

Trying this place that just opened in Reynoldsburg called Anything Bagel. It’s in the same building a place called Block’s Bagels was, which was apparently pretty notable in Cbus. Asked them to make me a BEC with salt, pepper and a hash brown — I’m definitely not still missing NYC or anything…

I have a gut feeling that I’m not going to be able to buy a BMW in February/March-ish because the SPR is going to be sucked dry this autumn & gas will skyrocket to $6, $7, maybe $8 a gallon even… pushing EV prices skyward and the only way I’ll be able to stay in an EV is to buy out my Tesla lease.
