I’m sorry but I don’t know who is buying this guff “we are going to lose but the numbers say it’s really close, the problem is getting enough activists to come down” is a classic of the by-election genre and is used solely to get more activists down. www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/labour...

Labour Increasingly Confident Of Beating Zack Polanski In Crunch By-Election
But the Greens say their “confidence is misplaced” as voters in Keir Starmer’s old seat prepare to go to the polls.

From Politico. That motion is absolute fucking poison and by failing to stand up to it, the Greens have allowed that poison to seep into the party.

Follow along for other top big-brain hits, like going on TV after the local election results to say they were shit while the party tries to build momentum off half-decent, spinnable results.

MP who spends his time complaining that we're not doing well enough in the north and Labour-facing seats draws the line at capitalising on the government doing an unpopular thing to high turnout voters

Why Ed Davey decided to do weird attacks that don’t land and don’t meet the mood of the country rather than a lap of “Labour have listened to us but must go faster and further” I don’t know

Half of Labours problems is because they listen to 25 year olds in London who have never spoken to a single voter in the life; the other half is because they hate 25 year olds in London

No one with a full-time job should have to turn to a food bank. In-work poverty is all too common and that has to change.

My colleague @lisasmartmp.bsky.social tried to get the government to cap political donations last week, and they stupidly ignored the calls. I fear that we are now past the point of no return and at the beginning of an arms race, with parties chasing bigger and more outlandish donations.

Capping donations to political parties was a Liberal Democrat manifesto commitment in 2024, and Lib Dem MPs tabled amendments in April to make this happen. Peers will press the same case in the Lords - so that our democracy is protected and everyone's voice can be fairly heard.

Meanwhile amendments from smaller parties aren’t brought to a vote because everyone is forced to rally around a Labour backbench MP with no intention of ever pushing the subject. They should be shamed for it more and the public affairs teams who enable it

Hard not to become completely disillusioned with politics: a Labour MP with a big Twitter following produces amendment —> public affairs teams produce an email template for constituents treating signing the amendment as a litmus test —> Labour MP withdraws amendment before vote for private gain

With no comments on the merit of either position, at work the 'pro' emails were based on the process of the Commons passing it last time and the 'anti' were making the case why the bill was bad. Taking a mobilising approach that presumed MPs had settled opinions was a mistake from the 'pro side'.

William Tench @williamten.ch · 11/09/2026
I think the fundamental problem that the 'pro' side made was that they stopped trying to persuade.

imagine being a teenager excited to visit a faraway country and play cricket, and you find yourself hiding in your hotel room hoping the thugs knocking your door don’t try to break it down then imagine being an asylum seeker put into a hotel room hoping the same thing we should be so ashamed

this is just so outrageous. we cannot have a country where any group of non-white people seen in public - whether a visiting youth cricket team, or a group of British nationals, or, yes, asylum seekers - gets a mob sent after them, and the government just ignores it
