UCL was the same. No music department but the SU paid for a conductor for the various music societies. Nottingham is a disaster, however.

I refuse to believe that the most egregious case yet of academic AI-slop involves a guy whose last name is "No slop" spelled backwards. Simply cannot be true.

Using AI, a professor wrote 200 papers this year. Researchers are alarmed.
An online platform removed 257 papers written or co-written by the University of Chicago’s Nicholas Polson after other academics raised questions.

I mean, I suspect most countries are actually a bit like this. Sweden was Volvo and Abba for a while, wasn’t it? And Lego must be a sizeable proportion of Denmark’s GDP.

Am I missing something here? Private providers aren't the universities. I've never been clear if they're doing deals with the universities. Otherwise, the government needs to be talking to the providers.

The cost of rent has a major distorting effect on High Education. Rents at the rates are probably one of the things that means students are working lots of hour in paid employment, and unable very often to focus on the degree. www.theguardian.com/education/20...

The facts are shocking enough, but the bigger reason that the Cornell gang-rape case has broken through is that everyday Americans are sick of the rich and powerful and their sons getting away with it And everyone knows this fish stinks from the head My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/corn...

This is right. It’s almost impossible not to and lots of people are wilfully misunderstanding this point. I don’t remember to write ‘-ai’ most of the time in searches, and frankly it’s too tiring to remember.

I don’t think saying ‘everything is political’ is really all that useful anymore (if it ever was). The persuaded are persuaded, and the unpersuaded aren’t. It doesn’t do any analytical lifting.

As far as I can tell most people posting on this and other forums (cough*student room*cough) have never had anything to do with the places they purport to know all about. They’re a pretty interesting exercise in disinformation.

I do not like the new REF rule that attributes your work to the institution you were employed by when you wrote it. Especially since most writing is now done in non-work time. Even more than that I hate that journals are making us affiliate to unis that we have long since left …

Rather difficult not to feel a bit gloomy about the state of the country atm, so I wasn’t going to make much of a thing of this anniversary this year. And then I saw this and started to cry. Because a free and united Germany in a free and united Europe was worth it. And is worth fighting for now.
