One year ago today “Otherwise Wretched“ was launched into the world at the fine Columbus indie bookshop Prologue Books. With the generous help of PBS’s Eric Gnezda! A wonderful ride!

I love Alan’s description of Pigs here—also he’s not wrong about the NPR thing even though NPR might be surprised to learn that. Thanks to everyone at AWP who helped dwindle down the restock of my book. I sold way more copies than I thought I would!

Deliver Thy Pigs, a novel by Joey Hedger
Our first book to ever be featured in an
NPR story (on a national level, that is). To be fair, the story wasn't about Malarkey or Joey's book. It's about a vending machine in DC that vends books by DC-area authors, but you can see copies of two of our books, Deliver Thy Pigs and also Faith by Itoro Bassey, so 1 call that being featured in an NPR story.
Anyway, I love this book. Even though the story is driven by pain and betrayal and anger, it is written with all of Joey's love and kindness and ends on a hopeful note that I know I needed, and I bet other people need it too.

What a great time talking with Chris Clinard at Books4Guys. We discussed the importance of bringing guys back to literary fiction and the role lit journals play in nurturing writers. I hope you check it out! www.youtube.com/watch?v=usEW...

Wow! Just realized my book’s nearly 4 years old already!! Which doesn’t sound right because I’m pretty sure it only came out last year. Buy Deliver Thy Pigs, my earnest little novel about trees and Illinois and slaughterhouses so I can afford to send it to college!

Lots of questions about the role of animals in Otherwise Wretched. Think the intersection of humans and animals during some wretched times. An homage to the animals among us.
