The Tory leader seeks to echo Margaret Thatcher as she sets out her guiding political principles.

I am a ‘city slickin’ F2 expert’ and the remarkable thing is that even before Herta made his intrepid switch to F2, he already was no longer the fastest American driver in the Andretti stable. I think this gambit served only to underline the incomparably superiority of the European junior ladder.

For pity’s sake. Can someone please remind Jacques Villeneuve why the VSC was invented: because Jules Bianchi suffered a fatal head injury racing round to catch the safety car while a car was being recovered. #F1 #SkyF1 #AzerbaijanGP

For those who beginning to wonder whether Jacques Villeneuve actually knows what on earth he’s talking about, remember, at the Canadian GP last year he said Antonelli probably wasn’t good enough for #F1… #SkyF1 #AzerbaijanGP

Absolutely yes - I feel like this is really salient rn and I’m literally about to propose it as a topic for a feature to my ex-freelance writing colleague: Josh Suttil at The Race. (Needless context: I used to write a fair bit but my disability progressed to a point where it wasn’t possible)

“England” was certainly constructed—but not arbitrarily. Æthelstan’s seizure of York in 927 consummated a century-long West Saxon/Mercian project, creating a unified regnum Anglorum. The striking fact is not that borders changed, but that this 10th century polity proved institutionally durable.

England is a made up thing. It has no basis in the ineluctable laws of nature. Its extent is defined by Edward II getting his arse handed to him. Athelstan conquering York. The Welsh of Cumbria were incorporated, the Welsh of Gwynedd were not. It is a political idea, an aspiration - not taxonomy.

Former foreign secretary David Miliband says Brexit is “a unilateral declaration of political impotence” as he calls on prime minister Andy Burnham to rejoin the EU. Miliband is spot-on: the UK must rejoin the EU. Good piece in today’s #Mirror. Click below. www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...

Imagine denuding yourself of an identity and community that you have every right to because you are so untalented your only prospect of political career advancement is to side with small-minded ethno-nationalists. Quite sad.

Grieve was still using Parliament to resist Johnson’s Brexit strategy after losing the whip. To treat the One Nation centre-right as accomplices rather than among Faragism’s most consequential Conservative opponents is ahistorical, sectarian nonsense. 2/2

I find this kind of sentiment truly contemptible. Philip Hammond, Dominic Grieve and the other victims of Johnson’s 2019 purge put principle before party and, in several cases, knowingly sacrificed their parliamentary careers to resist the populist capture of British conservatism. 1/2

After 6 wonderful years, I’m becoming the Senior VP of InGen, the most interesting company in biogenetics. There are challenges, dinosaurs can be tricky especially when they escape. Some criticism is propaganda. Part of my role make the fences higher and make sure absolutely nobody else gets eaten.

Remarkable that the most empirical, data-led sport in the world has ended up with cars that don’t work and tracks that are not raceable. Almost like the sport is being led solely by commercial interests…

Been crunching the numbers on today and after some intensive analysis I think I've concluded: If F1 want to build a new track, they should make it a GOOD one. That's where they went wrong. Easily done for a new sport with no money, I guess.

…do you mean the austerity that both Ed Balls and the late Allister Darling freely admitted would largely have been replicated by Labour had it won the 2010 GE? The austerity made unavoidable by the lack of fiscal headroom for a Obama-style stimulus?

The funny thing about this is not just how pathetic it is: it’s how naively apolitical it is! The way he names liberal hero FDR great alongside the man who set up the League of Nations suggests that he not only doesn’t think about political history, he doesn’t think about it as a conservative.
