The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.

satin ribbons

After unexpectedly winning her first blue ribbon for a sewn cape in 1981, Carol St. Clair Johnson developed an enduring love for the New Mexico State Fair. The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.

I'd only be worried about a Trump coup if... a) They fired all the professional generals and replaced them with loyal hacks b) They brought Nat'l Guard troops from pro-Trump states into DC until 1/20/29 c) Trump was building a massive bunker with drones next to the White House wait a minute...

it feels reassuring to sit back and look at things people told me I was being dramatic about and realize I was not, in fact, being dramatic at all. the nazis did take over twitter. the fascists did take away abortion rights and are coming for our democracy. AI is already subverting human rules.

Any "A.i." "literacy" program pushed on kids CANNOT be directed, advised, or funded by the "A.i." industry -- and it must include "A.i." QUITERACY - teaching kids how to disable and opt out and reject "A.i." Otherwise "A.i." "literacy" is just a drug pusher teaching kids how to snort cocaine.

Striking article. Missing and damaged artwork. The building left trashed. I am struck by the image of the "tangle of upended music stands." It's as if the Kennedy Center was simply evacuated of people one day...

Too many “free market capitalists” forget that Adam Smith believed in regulation to keep free markets from becoming exploitive and corrupt. Not to mention that they didn’t hear anything good about Keynes in B school.

Funny how after every SCOTUS ruling striking down some protection from government abuse, the officials those protections restrained — cops, prosecutors, Republican state electeds — immediately start acting in the precise manner SCOTUS assured us they no longer do.

With a population around 600 in Thomas WV, I counted between 150-200 people at one point during the rally today. Talking to folks, we had people from Parsons (around 1300), Davis (also around 600) and unincorporated areas of the county. Pretty darn good for the highlands. #NoKings
