B.C. Green leader Emily Lowan wins endorsement of Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, whose wife was NDP MLA Phillip's wife Joan served as NDP MLA from 2024 until her death this summer Phillip had been a strong supporter of the NDP www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... #bcpoli #bcGreens

In his statement posted by Lowan, Phillip says her understanding of the climate crisis as well as her "proactive, principled, evidence-based approach" with finding solutions were key reasons for his endorsement.
"She is a strong and courageous ally for Indigenous peoples in B.C. and approaches environmental stewardship with full respect for Indigenous rights,” Phillip's statement says.
Phillip fell out with Eby over his handling of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.

None of this addresses the WHY: Pervasive mental health challenges; comorbidity of other medical conditions like FASD or chronic pain, age-out of foster care system sans adequate supports, endemic poverty. Substance users were prolific in DTES/Surrey in the 90's when Riverview was operational.

Problematic. Where are 'rehabiliated' individuals going after they have met whatever metrics are indicative of recovery? Many are unable to sustain market housing, are too complex for emerg shelters and recieve gov't income far below capacity to afford market housing.
