ok here’s my backpack!! when I started sewing this January I saw this pattern and was like ‘I gotta get good enough to make that’ and I DID! the blue and white parts are hand quilted~

a brown and blue hobbit style backpack. The front pocket has a quilted star in white, yellow, green, and blue fabric. The top flap is dark blue and folded over and has green quilting with embroidered flowers. The buckles holding the front flap closed are antique brass. There’s a pin of a puffin on the front pocket.

Brian Eno quote: Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit - all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided. It’s the sound of failure: so much modern art is the sound of things going out of control, of a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. The distorted guitar sound is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. The blues singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry too powerful for the throat that releases it. The excitement of grainy film, of bleached-out black and white, is the excitement of witnessing events too momentous for the medium assigned to record them.

The first time I witnessed someone get abducted was Sunday, December 14th, 2025.
ICE left behind his wife and an infant child in the car.
The family was going to church.
"We pulled over, but then they told us they would take us too if we did anything. We have our own baby in the back seat."
None of us knew what to do. No one tells you how useless you feel when someone is taken.

The next abduction I witnessed was a couple weeks later.
Both times, I hadn't even gotten out of bed yet when I heard the whistles.
I was better at responding the second time. There's not a lot you can do except make noise and be annoying.
I'm good at being annoying.
At this point, being annoying is liable to get you shot or tear gassed or blinded.
It is what it is.

Focusing on anything but the occupation has been difficult. That's what I've come to call it now--an occupation. What else do you call a bunch of soldier bullies driving around the streets trying to find people to kidnap?
I try to be more present for my friends and neighbors.
"Hey, do you have some time to drop off some donations this weekend?"
"Yeah, I'll do a Costco run!"
"I've got some blankets and coats to donate."
"I can come pick them up tomorrow! You guys need anything from the store?"

"Is anyone available to watch the bus stop?"
"I can!"

Hiveworks artists have dealt with SO much over years of mismanagement, and they need your support. There's a "How You Can Help" tab of their statement that calls for supporting affected Hiveworks artists, spreading the word, and perhaps, most importantly - reducing speculation!
