When I was a preteen I was watching a commercial for frizz control serum & my dad walked in & said “frizzy hair” is an idea made up by marketing companies trying to sell us stuff we don’t need & my hair is beautiful the way it is. That 1 minute conversation has stayed with me the rest of my life.

Capitalism can’t be the best system because every day I come across opportunities to apply my unique talents to help people, but I can’t do it all because there’s no budget, limited time & I have to pay bills. Scale this dilemma out & the world loses a lot of value. It’s a damn shame.

I don’t spend much time here mostly because I feel like the TL is too American-focused. Is that the case for everyone? Or do I need to do something to see more global news and conversations? I’m interested in my other homelands - Canada, UK, Ireland, Uganda - and the world more broadly. 🤔🙏

Wild week for Trump effects. Friends in Uganda seen supplies withdrawn from offices & clinics; fate of healthcare salaries unknown, due to USAID work stoppage. Friends in Canada stocking up on supplies as 25% tariffs cause panic. For once UK seems relatively stable… for now.🫠

"I don't think I'm allowed to kill something because I am frightened." —Nikki Giovanni 💔 #poem #poems #poetry
I killed a spider
Not a murderous brown recluse
Nor even a black widow
And if the truth were told this
Was only a small spider
Sort of papery spider
Who should have run
When I picked up the book
But she didn't
And she scared me
And I smashed her

I don't think
I'm allowed

To kill something

Because I am

Frightened.

Tile B: Misinformation

Don’t let the desire to make “good” art stand in the way of making art. Make bad art earnestly and joyfully. Pour your heart into poorly executed, derivative creations. And maybe it will end up “good” eventually or maybe it won’t, but either way you got to experience the magic of creating.
