Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.

The Swan Nebula - Optical/Infrared Comparison - From Rolf Wahl Olsen - flic.kr/p/fsFLfD

This image shows the bright nebula Messier 17, also known as the Swan Nebula or the Omega Nebula.
This nebula is located about 6000 light years away in the constellation of Sagittarius. It was discovered by Swiss astronomer Philippe Loys de Chéseaux in 1745 and later catalogued by Charles Messier in 1764.
The central part of the nebula is lit up by a cluster of extremely bright young O and B type stars. It is one of the brightest and most massive star forming regions in our galaxy and appears very similar in spatial structure to the famous Orion Nebula, but the Swan is viewed more edge-on from our vantage point. The nebula is also very bright visually, actually much more so than its famous neighbour the Eagle Nebula - which traditionally is the more photographed of the two.

Visible above the nebula is a pair of very unique bright orange stars. These are LBV (Luminous Blue Variable) type stars HD 168607 and HD 168625 respectively, two rare yellow hypergiants that might have formed what is known as a pseudo-photosphere. This is a theoretical optically dense surface present due to intense stellar winds and thus not the actual surface of the star. This pseudo-photosphere is much cooler than the underlying surface of the star and therefore appears yellow to us. The right-most of these two stars in the image (HD 168625) also has an associated complex nebulousity surrounding. Some of the latest Jupiter data from the HST joint observation program for the Juno probe. Jupiter here in nearly RGB filters; the equatorial limb areas look a tad bluer than they normally would because the blue channel is a near-uv filter. This also makes the Great Red Spot and some of the cloud bands look a little redder.

Been working on this for a while. Have to say it was probably one of the more challenging datasets I have processed due to the delicate combination of LRGB and narrowband data required to tease out the colours and fine structures in the nebula as well as the deep background detail.

About the image:
This deep view of the Helix Nebula combines light from traditional LRGB filters together with specific narrow Ha and OIII wavelengths to reveal the colourful and complex structures of this magnificent planetary nebula.
The Helix Nebula is located around 700 light years away towards the constellation Aquarius. It is one of the nearest planetary nebulae and therefore appears quite large and detailed although its surface brightness is rather low.
The nebula is the result of a sun-like star shedding its outer layers during its final stages of evolution. Several rapidly expanding shells of dust and gas surrounds the intensely blue stellar remnant in the centre, giving the appearance of a giant eye in space. The inner and outer shells were expelled from the star approximately 6,500 and 12,000 years ago respectively and are expanding at a speed of 32-40 kilometres per second.
The brightest ring is currently two light years across, while the faint outer structures extend to a diameter of four light years - the same distance as between the Sun and the nearest other star; Alpha Centauri.

This composite is made of images that were taken by Cassini's camera system, the Imaging Science Subsystem (ISS) on April 18, 2015 and received on Earth April 19, 2015. The camera was pointing toward Titan and Saturn, and the images were taken using the blue, methane band, and continuum band filters.

Here is my latest astro image; ~44 hours exposure showing the majestic barred spiral galaxy NGC 1365 located in the southern constellation of Fornax at a distance of 56 million light-years:

Visible in this deep image are several faint streams extending out from the main arms, especially along the Western and Southern edge of the galaxy (3 to 6 o'clock position). These may be remnants of mergers with smaller dwarf galaxies or perhaps structures within the spiral arms themselves.

The galaxy is significantly larger than our own Milky Way, with the two main spiral arms spanning up to 200,000 light-years. The symmetrical arms curve around the entire galaxy forming an almost ring-like halo. Together with the prominent central bar the arms outline an elegant Z, making NGC 1365 one of the most striking and beautiful galaxies in the sky.

Bright knots of young star clusters and red emission nebulae dot the entire galaxy, and in the centre dark dust lanes trace around a cosmic maelstrom. The active nucleus of NGC 1365 hosts a supermassive black hole with the mass of approximately 2 million solar masses and rotating near the speed of light.

In the background the entire field of view is littered with distant galaxies of various sizes and shapes. Many of these can be seen through the spiral arms and tidal streams of NGC 1365. Even a couple of very distant galaxy clusters can be seen. Many of these background galaxies are so far aw...
