Nice to see all the Nick Cage love (yes, that is his preferred spelling of his shortened first name) on the feed today. A true thoughtful artist, whose movies vary wildly in quality, but his performances in those movies are *always* intentional, interesting, and worthy of deep appreciation.

Everytime some cool new action figure is up for preorder, like the great new Absolute Batman from McFarlane Toys, I feel a real urge to buy it. But then I think, “What would I even do with a $50 dollar plastic toy?” and when I invariably can’t come up with a reasonable answer,the urge to buy passes.

I am over halfway through my watch of “Adventure Time,” and this may be recency bias, but it’s edging close to being one of my favorite shows ever. I don’t think I’ve seen a cartoon more committed to being silly fun, while also have cool action things happen & repeated deep cut nerdy lore payoffs.

It is a “Surf Dracula” situation. But like all internet shit that label destroys all nuance that you pointed to. It’s a reminder that the joy is in the journey but only if the trip is planned well. And it definitely was here. I think any green-coated punch-em-ups in what’s next would be a downgrade.

Agreed. Loved everything about it. His personalized oath got me a teeny bit emotional. When the cape stuff is good, it’s the best. We just so rarely get anything that tries to actually say and do something outside of “punchy punchy.” Which I think is why so much of this new DCU has worked so well

I’m not surprised a lot of comic fans didn’t like “Lanterns.” But I deeply appreciated that it was a series about super heroes where any time a punch was thrown or a giant sky beam appeared, it was because a character made a bad choice. Despite its liberal use of “fuck,” it was a truly mature show.

I always hated that criticism of Batman because he literally does use his wealth to improve the city and the lives of the population. And it’s not just the comics where he does that. Most of the adaptations talk about it too. It’s the most surface-level,”I took sociology 101” commentary possible.

FTW. Throughly entertaining. Sanada is mesmerizing to watch and you can see why he became such a legend. It’s tonally messy with a funky jazz soundtrack. Good fight choreography. Genre tropey as all hell but a fun watch. Chiba is in fine form as expected. 4/5
