MANDALORIAN AND GROGU is a Saturday afternoon matinee movie if ever there was one. Favreau wears his influences on his sleeve with Apocalypse Now, Blade Runner, The Muppet movies, and Flash Gordon all poking their heads out. It's a love letter to serial sci-fi. A flawed but fun, goofy summer movie.

Is it full of depth? No. Are there galactic consequences? No. Are there Jedi? No. It was extremely well made and was an obvious passion project for Favreau. You can literally feel his love for Flash Gordon. This was an absolute fun Saturday Morning adventure with Mandalorian and Grogu. (CONT)

The thing about Star Wars is that I actually really like Star Wars. It's just so much Star Wars is bad,,, The fan edits of the original movies to make them closer to their initial theatrical releases really do hold up so well tho and in a lot of ways that I love.

Adding my own commentary, but Alex makes a great observation that TMAG is a breakwater of-sorts for Starfighter and Sequel-era movies to come: letting anxious waves of varied expectations since 2019 break across it with its general audience familiarity and homework-free Star Wars party vibes.

Not a Republican anymore. But there was a time during the Tea Party movement where I got involved in Students for Liberty and Young Americans for Liberty as a Libertarian (not the weird, pro-MAGA Libertarians that are frequent today). Justin Amash and Massie were among the most principled.
