Happy Labor Day. I've had a lot of strange jobs, this was one that was, in retrospect, perfect for me at the time. A lot of effort goes into product testing and safety, more than most folks realize.

Dolly Parton understood something that too many of my public health colleagues have not grasped: a good idea isn't sufficient — you have to sell it. So she got vaccinated in front of cameras, and literally begged her fans to not hesitate, to vaccinate — to a reworking of Jolene

A digital illustration of Statler and Waldorf, the sarcastic old man muppets, seen sitting in their opera box at the Muppet Theatre and heckling whatever is happening onstage. Probably Fozzie’s act. Starler is in the right with the big chin. Waldorf is in the left with the mustache and heavy lidded eyes. But the are almost always shown in the reverse order of their names. There are red curtains behind them and along with some bits of filigree in the front of their box are some brass (?) letters spelling out ‘Maybe it will happen today’.

Exactly. It reminds me of how Phyllis Wheatley had to have three white men vouch for the fact that she wrote her first book. I have noticed some journals do this when the author never admitted to AI use. One thing I'll say is people tend to say they use it.

A perfect summer afternoon: sitting in the shade, drinking some Hot-Kid Milk Drink and reading about Louis XIV.
The book cover for The Sun King by Nancy Mitford sitting face up in my lap features a 1653 portrait of Louis XIV wearing an elaborate feathered headdress. To the left: an open red can of Hot-Kid Milk drink featuring a happy cartoon kid with a heart shaped tongue and bright pink cheeks sits on the arm of a blue plastic Adirondack chair.

A digital illustration of a crow, aiming toward the southeast, seen from a high angle, with its head turned to the southwest. In its beak it is holding a steak knife of some kind. You know like in that meme but a little different. The crow is casting a pink shadow onto an irregular orange shape it is standing on. And arrayed around said shape is some rough lettering in multiple colors reading ‘Maybe it will happen today’.

A digital illustration of an Octophant. An African elephant head sporting an additional seven trunks like octopus arms. It is colored mostly in sea green shades with a watery backdrop. Three trunks hold objects of a certain symbolism: an hour glass, a scythe, a skull. The head trunk and one trunk above the head hold flowing orange banners attached to little sticks with lettering which when read together reads ‘Maybe it will happen today’.

Why limit oneself to *one* bedtime? At my house I practice two bedtimes: (8-9 pm) "nap on the couch after trying to read bedtime" and 11pm-4am "wake up on the couch, brush & floss, and drag oneself to ACTUAL BED bedtime" Not without its flaws, but it works!
