Carney taking a pretty clear stance against the Trump Administration’s actions here:
The leaders discussed the new agreement between the United States and Russia to supply millions of tonnes of diesel to the United States. The Prime Minister was clear: this agreement is in direct opposition to the efforts of Ukraine, Canada, and our allies to create peace and stability in Europe. It will provide additional revenue for Russia and help finance its illegal, unjustifiable war against Ukraine.

I meant it more generally, such as cutting Toronto city council, taking over school boards, and removing municipal bike lanes. The Ontario Land Tribunal, which could be seen as encouraging more housing, similarly steamrolls lower level governments in favour of big developers.

Wow, this is a lot of upset over eight-plexes. I’m assuming Smith is looking at Doug Ford’s steamrolling of municipalities as something to be emulated. That sucks.

In 2022, Ontario had a major outage in places with most homes running electric appliances. Respite centres were opened, but most people could stay at home or go to an unaffected family member’s. My in-laws had power, they ran extension cords to their neighbours for a couple weeks.

Samara oil pipeline hub is on fire in russia. Notice how it’s not an apartment building, kindergarten, school, or hospital like when russia attacks Ukraine, but the aggressor’s economy, attacked to limit the aggressor’s ability to wage war, not to murder kids in their beds.

Most of them don’t- the ones that can run on 120v plug one are relatively new and expensive, I don’t think there are many models like that in production yet (but if I’m mistaken, that would be great news).

We just make do without until it comes back. For a prolonged outage we have a barbecue and a camp stove but I’ve never used either. Most people in Canada have electric stoves, but between the cold and extended power grids it doesn’t seem to be an issue. Some rural people have back up generators.

The mobility of children is simply not taken seriously or viewed as important. Something illustrative is how people will often say that kids "don't count" when you remind them that children and young teens are nondrivers who deserve the right to get around without cars.

Oh wow In May, I reported Alberta separatists were using an app developed by GOP operatives with ties to US ambassador Pete Hoekstra @theglobeandmail.com now reports the same operatives flew to Calgary on a private jet for a secret meeting with separatist leaders: pressprogress.ca/alberta-sepa...
The pitch began with a prayer.
On an afternoon in late January, Mitch Sylvestre, the leader of Alberta's most prominent separatist organization, gathered with three of his lieutenants in a boardroom not far from the executive hangars at the Calgary International Airport, where private jets shuttle in and out of the city away from prying eyes.
It was a few hours before thousands of Albertans would gather near the city centre at a rally to launch the separatist campaign. But this meeting, convened behind closed doors a half-hour drive away, was invite only.
The Alberta Prosperity Project chose the location to accommodate its guests, Republican political strategists from Michigan who helped Donald Trump win the state in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
The American delegation travelled to Calgary to sell them on software developed for Republicans to get out the vote - and how it could be used to wrench Alberta from Confederation.
"They were young Christians. Capable, intelligent people," Mr. Sylvestre said. "We prayed before we started the meeting.""There is no secrecy'
One of the key figures behind the Michigan software company has expressed strong views on Alberta.
On July 1, Mr. Born wrote on social media: "On this Canada Day, I hope this is the last year Alberta is part of Canada." He has also called for U.S. annexation of the province.
A hunter, outdoorsman and commercial real estate agent in Grand Rapids, Mr. Born is the stepson of J.C. Huizenga, a wealthy Republican donor and founder of National Heritage Academies, a network of conservative charter schools in the U.S.
Mr. Wierda is the nephew of Erik Prince, who founded and ran the private military contractor Blackwater before it was sold to investors in 2010, and Betsy DeVos, the education secretary during Mr. Trump's first term.

I had to confirm details about efforts to block a transitional housing pilot project in my town recently, one of the loudest voices was a neighbour who had just moved to the area complaint that renters and home owners shouldn’t mix. The lot next to the pilot site is subsidized low-income housing.

I think they have a much better argument than Alberta does… but that’s a pretty low bar to clear. It’s not to be more uniquely distinct than a province located immediately next to a province that’s essentially culturally identical and was created in legislation on the same day.
