This, Dragonball Evolution, and Airbender, which I think all came out on the same year, solidified my general hatred of Hollywood. 30 yrs of taking everything I like, dumbing it all down, turning it into shit. My 90s cartoons shouldnt be smarter than their multimillion dollar Hollywood production!

I feel like Raiden 2 and Raystorm are two shmups I misremember as being okay at... not good but okay. I see footage of what a jerk Raiden 1 and 2 are and I replayed Raystorm recently. BRUTAL! Maybe I put them in easy mode or credit fed? My version of raiden also started you where you died.

I think TG16 Mini really got me with it's VERY respectful UI and game selection. The whole thing feels like a celebration of the system. The menus, music, and especially the way it shows the HuCard or CD get put into the system and load.

I always look at these things with the skepticism and practicality of "we don't need another emulation device! This is wasteful and silly." but when it comes to units that REALLY wanted specific keyboards or form factors... they win me over almost every time. Old computers, DS emu portables, etc

I should have probably dropped an rpg for Street Fighter 2. Maybe TMNT Turtles in Time. There is no shmup on there either. Darius Gaiden or Android Assault Bari-Arm could have gone in those couple of slots. Lunar there because anime/voice work, Chrono Trigger because close to perfection.

I suppose not every game needs some massive rundown of why or where I originally remember them from. Most can see those games and have a pretty good idea of the what's up.

FF2 (4, the one with Cecil) was the first RPG I completed. It FELT like it took forever and I was a dumb kid. Maybe it did. The idea of exploring such a vast world was amazing to me and I really liked the characters. Then the SNES, Sega CD, and PS1 continues to feed me well.

Ms Pac-Man is one of the arcade/Chuck E. Cheese holdovers, then we got the Tengen version on NES with all the extra modes. While watching my dad play in the arcade, it was the first time I knew he understood why I liked games, but also... dude, he was impressive.

Borrowed. I played MM3 for a whole summer! Again, got pretty good. Those Doc Robot stages sucked but I could finish them consistently. I knew MM2, but this is the first time I had a lot of free time to play a MM game and understood what made it great.

SMB1 was the first home console game we had with our NES Power Set. I got shockingly good and can no longer recreate the level of skill I had at a time with only one "big game." Yes, we had Donkey Kong and a few other fantastic games, but SMB1 and 2 were the big boy games!

Noted! I didn't realize it was THAT bad. When I was streaming many moons ago I got dinged for Ducktales and was more than a little annoyed and it was just 2 tracks.

No lie, family went on vacation when I was around that 10-12 age and they had Ronin Warriors in that state and in mine we did not. It became a "its my vacation too, cant i watch this everyday?!" argument. Yes, it was the coolest thing ever when I was a wee lad.

I've left a LOT of Discords in the last year because of this weird pedantic behavior, a need to control everyone's opinions and words. I just don't have the patience anymore. "I don't like this game because it runs so poorly" "Be specific or you arent allowed to talk!!" ... sigh.

Want to know why I'm in so few communities. I talk and shills and dumb people NEED to hop in, pretend they're mods and lords of opinions. "Read every comment first and there is no AI in NM" ... right the topic of the original post is "but what IF we had AI?" also casually read all 130 comments?!

FB showed me a NES Maker-related post suggesting "What if AI was the future of NM? Here is my mock up!" and I said "I don't like it, but I'm not your mom. If it should come to be a part of NM or if you use it outside NM, just disclose. Let us choose what we consume" IMMEDIATELY um, actually'd.

I remember Max Dood played DMCV SE on stream and immediately noticed the picture was off. He used the Xbox quick swap feature to compare the XBX and Series X versions of the game side by side The last gen version looked so much cleaner that he flat out said, "something is wrong here"
