Unless I add anymore trips to my calendar, it looks like I'll have been out of town for 52 days/nights by the end of 2026 (40 of them will have been for work trips) and will have been to 10 different states this year. I like traveling, generally, but whew, that is a lot.

I called my car insurance to update that my son is leaving for college soon & taking our old Subaru with him. Our policy is going DOWN $135 a year as a result, which is a lovely surprise. So far the only thing where college is saving us money (but I'm curious to see my grocery bills this fall)

I’m in the thick of Minnesota winter, where 20 degrees feels pretty manageable. I’m traveling for work this week to CA, where the temperatures are in the mid-60s and my brain is short circuiting. I don’t think there’s anything I missed that I wish I’d gotten. I’ll give you a little anecdote: Stephen Miller was perhaps the most concerned about the portrait session. He asked me, “Should I smile or not smile?” and I said, “How would you want to be portrayed?” We agreed that we would do a bit of both. And then when we were finished, he comes up to me to shake my hand and say goodbye. And he says to me, “You know, you have a lot of power in the discretion you use to be kind to people.” And I looked at him and I said, “You know, you do, too.”

I am DONE with all of my gift buying and 75% of my wrapping. I have lots of memories of my mom being stressed & mean on Christmas Eve b/c she was barely done shopping and hadn't done wrapping. One of the gifts I give myself & my kids is wrapping one gift a day for most of Dec and shopping early

I know mistakes happen, but getting sent the wrong item from an online store and then having to go to the post office to return it (in December!) is really annoying. I don’t want to keep a pair of men’s size 14 running shoes but I also don’t want to have to, like, do something to return the. Sigh.
