I'm sure I'll explain someday how the details lined up. Not tonight, though. There are certain pieces my brain is refusing to put together right now. Trying to protect me from seeing the whole thing before I can process it.

One of our cats won't be moving to the new place with us. The past few days have made it clear that it's time for the last trip to the vet next week. There's a lot wrapped up in which cat, where we're going, and... This is just wrong. Or tragically right. It's going to take time to process.

To every SA victim reliving their trauma, disassociating, battling rage and fear every day: We survived the hardest part. We made it through, changed, but we're here. Those memories are vampires sapping our very existence, but vampires die in the light. You can borrow some of mine awhile. Love.

Moved a box and read the label as "FRAGILE: Get ass!" Very disappointed to realize it actually says "FRAGILE: Glass!"

If you can help with some of the costs of our move, my ko-fi is open for tips. But I'll be absolutely delighted if you buy books instead of leaving a tip!

Spent nearly an hour talking about my writing with a family member. Our brains needed a break from all the preparing for the move. I really want to get to our new home and get back to writing!

My "Forest Tales" is in there, and I've read a few of the others in there. This is a great way to find new stuff to read!

The site where I've had some of my poetry and a short story available to read for free is closing down soon. It'll take some time with everything going on in our family, but I'll figure out somewhere else to do it. Maybe my blog. Maybe my ko-fi. You know, since those already exist.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

I needed something to help me push through pain and somehow relax last night, so I drew this whole thing with one long line. Started in the bottom left corner and finished in the top right.
White square filled with a very long, intricate squiggly purple line. It took hours to draw.

I let that take me into neurographic drawing tonight. This isn't the time to end up yelling, "Why can't I just draw a TREE?!"
An abstract neurographic drawing. Black lines on a white background.

Too many demands, too little time. Rigid structure with no room for deviation. And that stylus glides across the screen, refusing to do what I know I could do with pen and paper. A defiant inspiration of hope.

With everything getting packed for the move, I'm restricted to drawing on my tablet. Not usually how I do it. The sensory experience is an important part of drawing and painting for me. Right now, though, this may be what I need. It all feels chaotic, but there's really too much order.

Mama Lush is also a tarot reader because Larry once picked up the wrong cards, thinking he was buying some TCG cards for his nephew. When he found out the mistake he had made, he decided to learn to read them as a tool in his own recovery.

Larry is a military veteran who wanted to get out of the small homophobic town he grew up in. And then he decided one day that he needed to go home. Mama Lush runs a queer club where only non-alcoholic drinks are served so that it's welcoming and safe for everyone.

See, I made a BIG mistake... I thought I could write a drag queen as a character with very little story of their own, mostly just there for a small and vital role in the plot. Please stop laughing. The character has already educated me on how wrong I was.

I feel the need to confess something. Shirley Jackson's THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE (1959) is brilliantly conceived, exceptionally well written, a modern masterpiece of a novel, perfect in its precision, an instant classic. Wouldn't change a word of it. I hate it SO MUCH.

People say inaccurate stuff all the time and I don't feel the need to correct them. Dinosaurs and saying "I could care less" can get me goin', though.

LK Nesse @weirdfizz.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
"Shoebill stork" isn't an accurate name, but somebody didn't know that when they named the bird. A shoebill is NOT a stork, and birds are dinosaurs. I'm a lot of fun to be around when somebody says, "Crocodiles are basically living dinosaurs." Depending on your definition of "fun".

LK Nesse @weirdfizz.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Not everything that ends in "saurus" is a dinosaur, and the Tylosaurus was a large marine reptile, but not actually a dinosaur. Then there are days when I'm in a mood and say, "Shoebill". I save that answer for people likely to tell me that's a stork, not a dinosaur.

LK Nesse @weirdfizz.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
There are times when I give the honest answer. Mockingbird. (Birds are dinosaurs.) There are times I give an answer that is honest, but not accurate. But the other person isn't likely to know that and it'll all end quickly. That would be Tylosaurus.

Sometimes my answer when asked what's my favorite dinosaur is based on which answer will most likely make the person who asked stop talking to me.

I pictured it different in my mind". When I was a kid, I really wanted to find other kids who loved the things I loved. I didn't want to be "friend, but doesn't watch the right movies", " friend, but Star Trek fan", or " friend, but really into books". Sorry I wished for that.

I don't do book clubs. I don't do gaming groups. I have written fanfic, but I don't get into fanfic communities. Hell, I've pretty much stopped reading reviews of shows and movies because it seems "meh, not my thing" isn't valid anymore. It must be "acting is shit and writing is horrible because

Wow... I'll be real honest. The drama over the T. Kingfisher BG3 book is why I don't get into fandoms. I don't want to be involved with people who love the same things I love with the same passion because it's going to go like THAT someday. I prefer to keep to myself and love things.

I need a break. Packing art supplies is making me cry. I mean, they're going with us! I'll unpack them and use them again! The process is really restricting safe space, space to be myself. I know I'll use the supplies. I also know it probably won't be in the next couple of months.

Perhaps there is somewhere far away from here that's better. At times I think I can hear it calling out to me— as if the very wind through the trees beckons. Yet the closer I get the further away it seems. And I'm left shivering in the darkness where a promise used to be. #sensewrds 271

There seems to be a coordinated talking point among the EA folks that the "standard" approach to "AI" on "the Left" is "AI is just stochastic parrots so no need to worry about it". (Sorry for all the scare quotes, but y'know) >>

as a hater let me acknowledge something ai is good at: producing irritating discourse at scale this is usually because, like "ai" itself, people are talking about different things like they are one thing so let me disentangle, with statements numbered for easy disagreement

I made sure I took one more picture of the baby fig tree before leaves fall and they go through their first winter.
A baby Chicago Hardy fig tree growing in a large red pot. The tree is a little under three feet tall and has a broad spread of large green leaves.
