This week, we put out two benches at bus stops in the neighborhood. A place to sit should be the bare minimum for a bus stop, and yet it often costs the city thousands of dollars and months of paperwork to put in a bench.

Theoretically: making a small business argument would help a lot. These areas have lost most of their local businesses to big box/online retail. Practically: really hard to convince people to live more densely. These are some of the most car brained people in existence.

The trend shift in adults per family household is so insane. its even more insane that every important policymaker and economist thought we were slowly soaking up a glut of homes even into the 2010s. And it’s even more insane that there are still supply-crisis skeptics today.

IMPORTANT DETAIL HERE: garbage fees are essentially a wealth transfer from apartment residents to homeowners! If you live in an apartment building with 5+ units, you have to pay full price for a private service, and you ALSO SUBSIDIZE 82% OF THE COST of garbage pickup for SFHs + 2-4 unit buildings!
