While I was a somewhat regular user of the old bird site, apparently it wasn't enough. Turns out two separate backups of my bird site data and media can fit on a single recordable CD.

TIL there were retail big box copies of RealPlayer 7 Plus. You know... that software you had to download to watch videos on certain websites and instead tried taking over your PC?

On one hand, the Discover feed can increase the amount of unwanted content on your screen. On the other hand, I've found a few good artists and people to follow via Discover. At least when you click off Discover and look at another feed, it doesn't come back in focus on it's own.... yet.

It's hot outside. Time to bust out the CoolBaby 600-in-1 classic game console!

CoolBaby 600-in-1 "HD Video Game", a bootleg copy of the Nintendo NES Classic Mini from 2017. Has a somewhat similar box design but claims to have 600 games instead of just 30.

Menu screen of the CoolBaby mini clone. Games are divided up into six sub-menus as follows: Mario, Contra, HotBlood (Kunio-Kun games), Turtle, Adventure (Adventure Island games) and 545 in 1 (rest of the games)

Sub-menus use a stolen background from the Super Mario Bros 3 title screen. This is the "Contra" menu, or run-and-gun games. The ROMs of Contra are slightly hacked versions common on Chinese multicarts, offering a menu at the start to select a weapon or a stage. There is also a knockoff Contra game (Super Contra 7 and 8, both the same game) Probotector II, and a couple unrelated run-and-gun games.

I don't know why FB keeps recommending me truly gross "skin care" videos in the Reels section. I never asked for them, and when I try to hide one or block an account, I have to load one up and in turn, that feeds the algo and just gives me more of said sick videos. WHO WATCHES THAT CRAP?!!

It's amazing what kinds of TV history you can find on an old tape inside a 40+ year old VCR that you found at a thrift store.

Philco VHS VCR, model V1011, circa 1981 according to internet searches. It's a beast, has a top loading cassette tray and two rotary tuning knobs on the right hand side. Asking price was $10. Tape was inside it. Of course I had to buy it. Not sure if it works as it needs a tape path cleaning and unknown if the belts are still good.

Photo of the VHS tape inside the unit, a "Scotch HGX Plus" home recording tape from around the same time the VCR was made, probably. Early generation VHS tapes typically had heavier plastic shells than later generation ones. No labels on the tape, but there is leftover sticker residue on the spine.

Screenshot of the tape's recorded contents displayed on my iMac VHS transfer device. It's the CBS News coverage of Princess Diana's funeral from September 6th, 1997. At the very end of the tape, there is a leftover High School basketball game from the late 80s that got taped over with the funeral.

As promised, here are the deets on my recently acquired tablet/laptop convertible. Fujitsu Lifebook T901 with 8/2012 manufacture date and a former university issue computer. Found at a local flea market and recently restored back to Win7 Pro with ArtRage 6 for drawing.

I guess Microslop's sloppiness now extends to their online activation platform. I had to activate a Win7 install and while I've had good experiences with their online activation portal, it was a bit buggy. It kept me in a sign in loop until I signed in the third or fourth time, and then it worked.

I'm becoming more inclined to daily drive vintage tech because of this whole AI nonsense. My daily iMac is 5 years old now, still works good, and even after Apple drops security updates three years from now, there probably will be an open-source browser that still keeps modern websites loading okay.
