Aiden appears in the Projection Edge, riding a horse through a calm, moody Western landscape.

He says to the horse, "You're a good critter, ain't ya? Nice an' QUIET."

A voice is heard next to him: "Aiden."

Eamonn appears next to him, also riding a horse.

Eamonn: ...I'm so sorry this happened to you.

The computers will probably remain unassembled on Wednesday, so I'll have to update by phone. That means Bluesky and Mastodon only for now, and no alt text. Tumblr and Cara will update as soon as the computers are running. Life under construction. Information superhighway right lane blocked.

But I will say, the payoff is sweet. It felt like a fairy godmother had teleported me to the end of my commute this morning.

Mostly moved in, but computers and modems aren't set up. We'll be spending the next 4 days going back and forth cleaning and straightening up, so I might be out of touch for a while.

My plans this morning inadvertently did not include breakfast... and now I have no time to get anything. I might have to scrounge random stuff from the freezer. ...oh God, please let me not smash the truck....

Well, smack dab in the middle of a move and the day before I rent the moving truck is not the best time to have an anniversary, but happy 11th, @oneratnowalls.bsky.social. We're still going strong and I'm here for 11 to the 11th power more years if I can help it!

Thanks to everyone for their cheesy SatAM plot ideas! There were a few that made me go, "Oh, damn, yeah. THAT one." And there's already a couple I have ideas to build upon when I get the time to do it. :)

Okay, legit question albeit a strange one. What's a really, really hackneyed plot trope from the days of cheesy SatAM kid's cartoons? The upshot is I'm using them as a skeletal framework for the "Tales From Planet KPET" madness and it's kind of cathartic. Here are two examples I'm using:

Panel 1: From behind the house, Eva waves at Aiden.
Eva: ... Mr. Burdick?

Panel 2: Eva quickly ducks back behind the house as bullets fly past her.

Panel 3: Close up of Eva.
Eva: DON'T SHOOT! I'M NOT ARMED! I JUST WANT TO HELP!!
Aiden (off panel): GO AWAY!

Panel 4: Eva: PLEASE DON'T SHOOT! LET ME TALK! I KNOW WHAT EAMONN'S BEEN DOING!

Panel 5: We pull out to a wide shot. As Eva continues, a gigantic flash is seen emanating from where Aiden is located. Eva's eyes are closed and she does not notice.
Eva: BUT HE DOESN'T... KNOW! HE JUST WANTS TO HELP PEOPLE! HE'S A... HE'S A *GOOD* DOG, REALLY!

Panel 6: Eva: Please, just... don't SHOOT or anything. Just LISTEN and I'll EXPLAIN! PLEASE!

Panel 7: Close up of Eva as she waits for an answer.

Panel 8: When an answer does not come, she turns and says "... Mr. Burdick?"

Panel 9: Eva looks around the side of the building to see Aiden standing stock-still, his gun no longer in his hand.
Eva: ... Hello?

Panel 10: Eva approaches Aiden and waves her hand in front of his face. Aiden has a dazed look on his face and looks dead ahead.
Eva: Are you there...?

Oh, what the heck. Samples. They're all sketches because the important thing is to get the rush of ideas out.

OK. I'm not revealing anything about it that's not self-evident here, but this story has been an utter blast to write and draw. I have developed so many ideas for the premise, to the point where I got worried that it would overshadow, y'know, the actual comic I supposedly believe so deeply in.

#541: The negotiations will be short. projectionedge.com Mirror site: projectionedge.thecomicseries.com
Panel 1: Quenby is talking to a pair of hawks. Some other birds are also scattered about, attentive to her words.
Quenby: Now you understand that we're getting the dog out, don't you?
Hawk: Bad dog out now??

Panel 2: Quenby awkwardly reaches up to scratch the back of her head.
Quenby: The, um, DOG, will be leaving once and for all... and he won't disturb any of you anymore.
Hawk (spreading wings): BAD DOG OUT! BAD DOG LEAVE!

Panel 3: Quenby turns and directs her comments to all the assembled birds.
Quenby: But for that to HAPPEN, you have to leave us all ALONE... Is that understood?
HAWK (leaping excitedly): YES! YES! BAD DOG GO AWAY!
The other birds all leap about shouting "BAD DOG OUT! BAD DOG OUT!"

Panel 4: We see Quenby from behind looking at the birds flying away.
Quenby (thinking): Whew.

Panel 5: A voice off panel says "Hey!" causing Quenby to look behind her.

Panel 6: Various small woodland animals are lined up on and near a wall, along with a very peeved-looking deer.
Raccoon: Did you say you're getting the dog out?
Quenby (gritting her teeth in anxiety): ... Oh boy. THIS will take a while.

Have the opening sentences of a silly story I'm writing only for me: "It was a crisp morning in KPET City, the capital of KPET State, the only state in the United States of KPET, the only country on Planet KPET, formerly known as 'Earth.' An immortal but young rat named Ferris was out for a walk."

Proof that I was HUGELY into "Peanuts" in the fourth grade. These little dolls were available at K-Mart and I got them all. I remember hoping for more, but eventually they disappeared. I think they were just cheap bootlegs, but I loved 'em. Oh. Yeah. I did eventually get orthodontia.

Yeah, sadly, even hockey puck veggie sausage is like that. When I make biscuits and gravy, I usually cut up normal sausage and put it into the gravy, and it's much easier and tastier to eat.

Using downtime to research and write a "sciency" part of the PE script. However, I'm starting to believe that "showing my work" is antagonistic to solid story pacing. No matter how sincerely I want to avoid "a wizard did it," a well-told story may depend on drastically reducing the complexity.

A blog post about Phil Collins seemed deliberately designed to annoy me: "When Genesis broke up, little did Collins know he would become a sensation as a solo artist." Genesis did NOT break up before Phil's solo career, and in fact remained a going concern during the height of his success. Jeez.

I love John Cusack as much as the next guy, but he was seriously miscast as the elder Brian Wilson in "Love and Mercy." It's especially egregious since the guy playing the younger Wilson, Paul Dano, was PERFECT in his role.

Moving the tubs we have in storage here to the storage unit there. Doing so made this really hit home. I drove back home in silence, no music (I almost never do that) and just thought about change. If it seems like I'm making a lot out of this... moves bring out complicated feelings for me.
