For Long Library, I wrote a little about Onslaught, which I enjoyed, but which resorts to pastiche and imitation to a degree I find worryingly emblematic. Hope you enjoy peterraleigh.substack.com/p/onslaught-...

Onslaught Illustrates The Gravitational Pull of Pastiche

Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett’s The Guest (2014) was a film in some ways just a little bit ahead of its cultural moment.

“So, Tom. Your new film with [exaggerated accent] Alejandro Iñárritu, the one with the [voice raises an octave] insensitive title?” “It’s actually D-“ “Oh, you don’t care about that sort of thing [batting his leg with his papers] do you? This must be [voice drops 3 octaves] The New Hollywood.”

did bluesky hear about Miss Teen Indiana’s Garfield costume

A young woman in a Garfield inspired outfit with a Garfield headdress

The young woman from the first photo is holding a lasagna that says “lasagna my love language”

missinteenusa Tonight, Indiana is going Garfield!
My state costume celebrates one of Indiana's most iconic creations-Garfield, created by fellow Hoosier Jim Davis.
Born in Marion and raised in Fairmount, Davis turned an orange cat with a big personality into a character recognized and loved around the world.
But this costume represents more than a famous Hoosier.
The hand-painted comic panels on my skirt share messages inspired by my initiative, Captivating Confidence:
"Our differences are what make us beautiful."
"If we don't have love, we have nothing."
"Outer beauty attracts, but inner beauty captivates."
To me, true confidence is found in embracing what makes each of us different and recognizing that our greatest beauty comes from within. I am so excited to bring a little Hoosier humor, creativity and confidence to the Miss Teen USA stage tonight!
This one-of-a-kind costume was inspired by my vision and brought to life by Indianapolis-based costume designer, Jess West. @jesswestcostumes

Sam Raimi didn't strap a Super 8 camera to a 2x4 so you could tell me that AI is "inevitable."

The thing to know about people like Bryan Johnson is that his project to live forever is a reaction formation struggling to protect him not from the outside world but his own very deep desire for death. So yeah, something dark coming.

My favorite Sam Neil fact will always be that he designed a future Australian flag that replaces the union jack with the aboriginal flag for Event Horizon and insisted the film use it.

Screencap of Sam Neil in Event Horizon, his flight suit features an Australian flag with the union jack replaced by a yellow circle on black and red, the Australian aboriginal flag
