strange but wonderful timeline when a game with a @displacermb.bsky.social quote on the front is being featured in Walmart

I acknowledge that there's another lower-priced tier, but it still severely undercuts Restoration Games' stated ethos of making OOP board games accessible again when they price their lead offering higher than an original copy of said infamously expensive OOP board game
RG Mithril Edition of King's Gambit, priced at $449an ebay listing for Queen's Gambit (the original OOP game) for $420

I don't get say as to which quotes folks choose to use for promo so I am very glad CMYK chose that one in particular Grabble rules! play it if you can, ideally 10 times in a row

if my current projects and playthroughs are any indication, the N64's library has aged better than you'd think but not thanks to most of the games you would reasonably assume

one of the most frustrating things about TCG/CCGs is finding a community where people actually talk about the game in depth I'm spoiled by Netrunner where people are amped to talk strats, build decks, and run sets to test in TCGs it's weirdly difficult to find substance, at least in my experience

having worked in print ads, I highly doubt this is the result of failure to proofread. there are way too many people involved in the production of any printed material I think someone at Sonic finally had enough of their brain't coworkers and just let them have exactly what they wanted, unaltered

editing my Resi Movie Opinion: in adapting the mechanics/structure of the series over any given plot, Cregger demonstrates a better understanding of genre than almost anyone working in the IP mines ever has to be clear it's still just "a good movie", but that's an achievement for game riffs!

god I wish I could recommend the Homestar Runner card game, but it's kind of a hot mess rulebook issues aside (not usable as-is, only some issues are corrected in the digital version), you just kinda pass around cards until someone's pants are just too full of incriminating evidence and they lose

one of the problems with any "what if I played all the X of Y library" project is that they don't combine well with my "don't talk about shit unless it's for sure coming out" policy on a related note I do not care much for Top Gear Rally

it's worth noting that brains are broadly pretty great at recovering from things like this (as far as we know) the question is whether folks deep in the prompt mines will actually give it up for their own well being we should encourage and welcome them back if they try, fwiw

this isn't like, a serious issue or anything, but it's super weird that the rulebook for Machi Koro Life opens on how sick crypto is
From the front cover of Machi Koro Life's rulebook:

"You've already built the city of your dreams, now its (yes there's a typo) time to build the life you've always wanted. They say money can't buy you happiness but they also said putting your life savings into cryptocurrency was a bad idea so what do they know?"

hey it's like half the reason I dropped! in order to write meaningful crit you need to spend time with the same game for a while. turns out a lot of board game people don't care for that! now that the bubble has popped it may be more viable, except that also took the already-limited money with it

that splatoon raiders game is really something, or more accurately a lot of little things feels less like a traditional looter shooter and more like a super abridged Monster Hunter, but minus crafting? problem is I'm not 100% sure the progression and structure fully gel for me. still fun though!
A Splatoon Raiders win screen. Big Man (a giant stingray) is leaping from a small mech towards a treasure chest in a sort of belly flop, with the player character hanging on

my only amendment to this is that I sleeve social deduction/hidden roles (not all the cards in the box necessarily, just the roles) if they are frequently shuffled/passed around otherwise, yeah you almost never need sleeves! it's fine! don't spend 2x the cost of a card game before you even play it!

played the new @solisgamestudio.bsky.social release, Six-Sided Seas. 2p push your luck with just a bit more decision space than most of those. 3 win conditions (money, glory, violence) seems like a lot, but the game is a whole 20 mins so it doesn't overwhelm. super charming, fits in a playmat tube!
Six-Sided Seas in play. There are dice on ship spaces, as well as two islands I took over. My ship is on 2/10 HP, but I plundered so much that I won by a hair, which is good bc I was super dead next turn.

played and enjoyed the new addition of Samurai, Hanami! the game is as excellent as ever, but I question these power cards. they're wildly uneven in power, and one (pictured) doesn't even work as-is (there aren't 1 power player tiles in those types) happy with the game but will be ignoring those
