My main contribution to the gendered jobs discourse is that the nurse who was caring for my father when he died was a former NCAA lineman whom dad loved because he could carry him around the house. He made way more money than an assembly line worker at Tesla does.

I mean, yeah. The "we need manly tough jobs for men" president came into office and immediately crushed the construction and energy sectors for no reason at all.

Texas is basically saying it wants to encourage fraud as a matter of public policy and you should keep that in mind whenever you see a large firm incorporated in Texas

I also think about Elon saying Biden's DOJ wouldn't prosecute Sam Bankman-Fried because he was a Dem donor... followed by Biden's DOJ nailing SBF, who now posts about how awesome Trump is so he can get a pardon.

That's the only type of plot that would make me care about multiple dimension stories: a Mirror verse in which people slowly realizing that not only do they owe no loyalty to their other-dimension selves, they may actually have more in common with the Mirror versions of their enemies.

The (very sweet) elderly Lyft driver in Tucson told me (totally unprompted) that she blamed Biden for her groceries going up but thinks Trump is more focused on personal vendettas than the economy. Also she doesn't like talking politics. GOP cooked.

Boring answer is super blue districts who hated him already. Very deep red districts have the most room to lose, so they'll swing a lot even if they're more "resilient"

Donald Trump 1) is very corrupt and for ideological/aesthetic reasons wants to align the US with tinpot dictators 2) has a bogus public image as an expert deal-maker 3) is quite stupid Knowing this, Putin has convinced him to destroy all our closest alliances in exchange for bags of dirt.

This is the hardest part of public policy modeling: having to tell someone "this is either a good idea or a bad one, depending on whether it works or not, and there's no real easy way to know."

I don’t think the dynamics here are that complicated. Imagine a foot race where the winner gets a trillion dollars, but as the leaders of the pack approach the end line they see it’s at the very edge of a sheer 1000’ cliff. They would probably try to coordinate some slowdown.

The combination of the Fugitive Slave Act and the Dred Scott decision was such a major escalation in the lead-up to the Civil War bc it put to lie the idea that slavery was a "states rights" question. The South and SCOTUS were determined to force slavery into the North.

I think international prosecutions are the only way to re-establish the trans-Atlantic alliance. "None of our countries alone is immune to authoritarianism, so we need to establish joint courts isolated from pardon abuse and our corrupt judiciary. It's just as much a security issue as NATO."

Does he want a stronger dollar? I thought he wanted a weaker one. It's very funny how we are running our economy specifically in ways that would have been hugely beneficial to Manhattan office landlords competing with Japanese investors in the 1980s and it shows.
