Loving the photo on the Bank Hall station website which has a photo of a wonky sign. Maybe fix the sign before taking the photo lads www.merseyrail.org/journey-plan...

It should be on BBC One. I thought moving CBBC Sat shows from One to Two twenty years ago was a bad idea and I still do

From The Times obit for Esther Rantzen. Nothing against Ms Rantzen but us dogsbodies trained for 9 months to “do the chores” and would like to see the obit writer survive “Red Light Fever” and operate the panel in a busy studio live on air or create believable sound effects for a convincing drama.

Even though it's arguably the least popular of the BBC Saturday morning kids shows, I've come to believe that the theme for Saturday SuperStore is a banger www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AJm...

Love the response from the producer though
The show's producer, Jimmy Mulville, subsequently blasted the unit's findings, telling industry website Deadline: 'The fact that two members of a 6 million audience took offence, which then triggered a year-long investigation by the BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit, whom we’ve never met and sounds like something out of Kafka, is a total waste of the licence fee and is another example of the BBC’s paranoia about causing offence. HIGNFY is set up to be comically and intentionally offensive. My own definition of a cunt is someone who spends all day looking for problems that don’t exist.

@thetvroom.com do we know where the Radio 2 in the Park logo on the Wikipedia page has come from? I don't think this is an "official" logo layout, usually it's either "BBC RADIO" stacked in equal size, or just "RADIO". commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ra...

Especially as it would probably attract an older audience who might not be able to discover these things on iPlayer. But then I'm still baffled at why things like Radio 2 in the Park don't get more of an outing on BBC One or Two

Probably the best Windows 9x defrag simulation I've seen thus far! defrag98.com It's a more legit simulation than I've seen before. So each time you load this up you get a new virtual drive that's differently fragmented, rather than just playing back a preset animation

My memory is it felt really flat from TC9 though. Maybe if it had been from a bigger studio like in the past it would have been a better transition but they used Leicester Square itself quite a lot

Phil @vmphil.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
The Liz Kershaw example in that article is outrageous. It’s one thing to fake a competition winner due to “a production problem”, it’s another to deliberately include a fake competition with all the contestants being members of the production team!

Yes it was majorly disappointing. The only reason I was interested in at the time was because Griff doesn't seem to do much comedy or comedy-related stuff on TV nowadays, so I was intrigued as to why he was involved in it as a presenter. I'm still none the wiser.

Have always wanted to know why 2012 Griff Rhys Jones-hosted C4 panel show "A Short History of Everything Else" was cut from hour long episodes on commission to half an hour long on broadcast. The edits were brutal.

A typical chaotic SMTV opening sketch that pushes Ant over the edge. This feeling of watching some older kids basically having a laugh on TV is what made SMTV so great www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IrW...

I mean, by this point SMTV was still okay but all the presenters who came after Ant, Dec & Cat were absolutely nowhere near as good or came close to having the same chemistry. So sometimes I'd look in on the Saturday Show but it was a mess.

I do remember Remix, but as a late-afternoon highlights version of that morning's show.

You do seem to be on the money with that... but they're asking for emails which I find odd for a programme you're meant to dip in and out of. Apparently they also showed Remix at the same time so you could watch last week's show instead if you wanted! I'm guessing on red button?

The reports from the time say that he was out of contract after the end of 2005, Paul told the Mirror there had been emails but he didn't think ITV cared about him enough. Part of me wonders if they wanted to save money by letting him go, or if it was indeed pure incompetence.

Well nobody replied but, just for my own sakes, the answer is: Paul O'Grady moving his teatime show to Channel 4. Yes folks, according to "one insider", that was equivalent to Pearl Harbour.

Yeah, you think that after years of anticipating it, it wouldn't seem as surreal as it is, but it still is. The next day, Absolute were playing Bridge Over Troubled Water literally every ten minutes, which was a bit too much.

Then I had to go out to M&S in Warrington, and checked the BBC News website on my phone and saw she had died. I half expected them to make a tannoy announcement, because it's M&S (they didn't, maybe if it was a few decades earlier?).

This was an odd day for me because I was on my own in work, and I didn't have the radio on, didn't look at websites, and had no idea that anything was happening until I got home and turned the TV on. Which is just bizarre in this day and age.

Also the other thing is, in the third photo, you can see light panels that were designed to be moved in front of the backdrop when it was dark. But on the first day, at 6am, they didn't use them, probably because they wanted to show off the backdrop. As I say, would have better to save it.

Interestingly though, I think GMB is a much better watch than Breakfast these days, particularly when comparing some of the presenters. It's interesting how things turned out.
100
Phil @vmphil.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Not many people would have been watching at 6am anyway, but now all the historical screenshots make it look like the studio was dark all the time. (Even though, again, I quite liked how it showed day literally breaking). Then there was the problem that the content of the show wasn't very good.

Phil @vmphil.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Controversial opinion time but I absolutely loved this set/design at the time. I thought it was a breath of fresh air compared to the artificial sunniness of GMTV. But, they should have waited until 7am to reveal the real backdrop.

I got this on DVD out of curiosity and my memory is the first episode, which is essentially another Porridge, is great, but the rest are lacking mainly due to the 'sit' in this sitcom. I think if it had been Fletch in a more interesting situation, that might have improved it.
