There’s a lot of “bad” friction with this game that keeps me from loving it the way I want to: weird timings on enemy attacks and obstacles; big hitstop that makes what should be a fluid, aerial, combat style feel stodgy and stop-start; what feels like incredibly strict dodge timing, and more.

The more I play of Belmont’s Curse the more it feels to me like a classicvania with the trappings of a metroidvania. The RPG leveling seems utterly superfluous - I must’ve levelled up a dozen times and many basic enemies still feel like they hit hard and I don’t.
