The Once and Future Court is a 3-day LARP in which the modern incarnations of figures from Arthurian lore regain the memories of their past and must navigate their history of love and tragedy. 05/14/2027 - 05/17/2027 Signups: May 28-June 11, 2026 onceandfuturecourt.com Graphic by Haley & Liz
Two hands each holding a small golden cup with a liquid in it. The left side hand has a modern shirt cuff and a red ribbon draped over it. The right side hand has a robe sleeve with a blue ribbon draped over it. The text in gothic style script says "The Once & Future Court, a weekend long larp." May 14-17, 2027. Mt. Washington, Massachusetts, USA. Tagline at the bottom reads "Old England comes to New England." There is a marginalia style rabbit holding a Dunkin Donuts iced coffee and inside the capital C of Court is a castle.

It is a gentle rainy day here today. I have a purring lap cat, a cup of coffee, the sound of rain, and a forest view out the windows.

If anyone is, or knows someone who is in the Chicago area and has great taste, there's an Arcane dance party / LARP going on May 31 this year! There are still open spots they are trying to fill and I'm hoping they run it next year in Massachusetts! grimmoire.productions/fissure/?fbc...

When you can feel the depression starting up again and it's frankly, damnably inconvenient. This doesn't fit in the schedule, damn it. I have things I need to do, but NooOoOoo... my neurotransmitters have decided to be a Problem™. It's not even worrisome at this point, it's just a pain in the ass.

I don’t exactly have scientific data to support this, but I firmly believe that the sound of rain on the roof enhances the reading experience by at least 57%.

"Who's your favorite horror author?" Me: "T. Kingfisher." "And who's your favorite romance author?" Me: "T. Kingfisher." "...Are these separate books?" Me: "No." Reading Nettle and Bone again for the first time in years and loving it even more than the first time.

Multiple mornings I wake up to a fog shrouded forest out my window. Today is cozily grey with a light rain that was ideal for scattering clover, creeping thyme, and self-heal seeds to replace the grass. After chores, might need to watch The Secret Garden with a cup of tea and something fresh baked.

thatch finials were, historically, often used to indicate something about the resident- a hint at their occupation or the number of children, sometimes. so anyway i have some questions, namely, where is this house so i can figure out who thatched it and offer them a round of applause

Help out in your community if you can. Shop local, reuse & recycle if you can. Buy art & books from friends & strangers if you can. Disappear into the foggy moors or a mossy forest and become a legendary creature that timid townsfolk whisper about in the dark if you can.

and it is still infinity times better to be the kind of person who loves monarch butterflies, and the mosaic tilework on an ancient mosque, and kids whose names you'll never know running around a field kicking a soccer ball, than the kind who views them with indifference, but it is also painful

The one downside to amazing LARPs is just how many people, from a number of different places, that I regularly miss being around. Even just listening them talk to each other during meals. Been scrolling through Miskatonic University photos and reminiscing.

Briggs wrote this book five years ago, and i think it would be good for those of us who don’t know this history to catch up. Trump is not an exception. He *is* “who we are.”
About the Book
"You have to take the children away."-Donald Trump
Taking Children argues that for four hundred years the United States has taken children for political ends. Black children, Native children, Latinx children, and the children of the poor have all been seized from their kin and caregivers. As Laura Briggs's sweeping narrative shows, the practice played out on the auction block, in the boarding schools designed to pacify the Native American population, in the foster care system used to put down the Black freedom movement, in the US's anti-Communist coups in Central America, and in the moral panic about "crack babies." In chilling detail we see how Central Americans were made into a population that could be stripped of their children and how every US administration beginning with Reagan has put children of immigrants and refugees in detention camps. Yet these tactics of terror have encountered opposition from every generation, and Briggs challenges us to stand and resist in this powerful corrective to American history.

Nothing like armed, barely regulated cis men, who chose a profession of violence, being given legal free reign to burst into the bathroom at any moment, to make cis women feel safe... I feel like this should have been a SNL skit from the early 90s for a government-funded, terror-based laxative.

I rung in 2026 being violently ill and disoriented to the point of barely able to speak and spouse took me into the ER. Weeks & many tests later still no answers, but only mild lingering issues. Thankful that I don't need my gallbladder removed (main initial hypothesis) but worried about a repeat.

the horror of this is compounded by the fact that the whipple building sits on the same military fort where 1600+ Dakota, mostly women and children were held in a concentration camp in 1863, where over 300 died

🧵In my expert opinion as a researcher of vehicle ramming attacks, what has been publicly described in the video evidence does not support the claim that Renee Nicole Good was attempting a deliberate ramming attack when she was shot in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026. 1/7

This is my baby, Brân. A GSD mix we found at a rescue as a puppy. We had over 14 yrs with him. He loved curry, spicy food, and pretty much anything we ate and he was allowed to try. He was a lap baby, gentle with puppies & kitties. Yesterday was his last day. He was spoiled and held every moment.
German Shepherd dog lying on a green and tan bolster bed, back end partially in the sunlight, staring at the camera with his just above the bed's edge and his enormous ears pointed straight at the camera.
A glow in the dark ball and pink cat jingly ball are behind him, and a large tug-o-war rope toy is in the foreground.A happily smiling / panting German Shepherd dog lying on a wood floor adjacent to a beige cat tower and a dog bed with a brown plaid blanket on it. A Tamaskan puppy is sitting on his back, which he is very pleased with.

Those hermit crabs can exfoliate me down to my bones. And then some kids find them, make a weird alter in their club house, and that's how I become immortalized, by the news clippings when their parents sneak in thinking they'll find drugs and find my Bone Cult. Bone Cult: You'd wish it was drugs.

Playing an arrogant, book-thieving cultist in an eldritch horror LARP yesterday has been the most fun I've in ages. The character was brought low by her own ambition and a spear-gun! The LARP was online and really well done! The different channels for scenes and rotating groups worked great.

Decorated part of the house last night for the first snowfall of the season. A few garlands, pine wreaths, festive placemats on the dining table. What I'm missing is a larger-than-life-sized Krampus to randomly hide in closets and a giant, wicker & straw Yule goat to set fire to in the field.

I need this today so very badly. If I had the energy, I'd build and crawl into a blanket fort, ferally hissing at anything bipedal that disturbed my reading. Instead I'll be on the couch, curled around a heating pad, maybe with a blanket thrown over my head while reading... still going to hiss.

I'm tired of hurting. I would like to bury my heart under some floorboards. Just give it a little vacation amidst the dust and creaking wood. Or maybe in a tree hollow, it couldn't feel too much worse if a woodland critter had a few bites.

I was reading a book the other day and the author threw in a passing mention to a bridge in Cork, Ireland which I’m pretty sure was a gift to me personally because what do you mean the locals have called it The Shakey Bridge for so long that recent conservation works were forced to retain the wobble

I want to have a Gothic horror pajama party. Flowing nightgowns and house robes, candelabras, wandering the hallways and grounds of a rented old house in the countryside, gathering together by firelight and watching a film or reading aloud a thrilling classic ghost story.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

The view out the living room window here is one of my favorites. Currently there's a rainstorm but enough soft, ambient light that the trees look glowing with gold, orange, and scarlet foliage against the grey sky, and the wind carried a parade of dark golden and orange leaves swirling by.
