I don't have the time or energy to write full threads today, but here's some animals from A New Age of Reptiles that are just waiting for a detailed thread! (Artwork by @fabioaleromero.bsky.social, @manusuchus.bsky.social, and Wyatt Andrews!)
A yellowish shark with curling barbels and a huge, knotched caudal fin. It has a small blueish streak behind the spiracle. Art by @fabioaleromero.bsky.socialSize comparison between two leopard-spotted, slender-snouted crocodiles and the silhouette of a waving man. The larger crocodile is labelled as male, the smaller as female. The male is about twice the length of the female. Art by @manusuchusA towering, sauropod-like simosuchian with a beaky snout, rusty orange-brown scales, and large clawed hands and feet. It is shown beside a waving man's silhouette, showing it to be a little over four meters in height.A shaggy-furred mammal with hoofed limbs and a head halfway between a rodent and a horse flees from two robustly built, long-nosed predatory mammals with dog-like builds. The fleeing mammal bounds desperately, its viscera visibly spilling from under its long fur. Art by Wyatt Andrews.

A New Age of Reptiles: Dodons and Dragons Southeast Asia, as in our timeline, is a tremendous biodiversity hotspot. A nearly impenetrable tangle of endless jungle, sweltering swamps, and salty mangroves extend for more than a million square miles, hosting a riotous diversity of organisms. (1/13)
A Scimitar-horned Dodon, a hoofed, big-headed reptile with a scute-covered body and recurved horn nasal horn. Its broad head is superfically hippo-like in shape, ending in a beaky margin of large, tough scales. It has single-hoofed hands and three-toed feet. Its long, drooping tail nearly reaches the ground, ending in a dense cluster of scutes. A size comparison with a man's silhouette shows it to be just over two meters tall at the hip and around six meters in total length.

Art by @manusuchusA Giant Allosaurops monitor, a huge, long-necked varanid with a splotchy, lace monitor-like pattern of deep blue-grey and sandy tones. It has a loose, baggy throat and two prominent, rounded horns above the eye. Its forked tongue flicks from the mouth, giving it a draconic visage. A size comparison with a man's silhouette shows it to be nearly seven meters in total length.

I don't recall if I ever posted these on Bluesky, but here's a set of illustrations I made for the Meiolaniidae wikipedia page back when I expanded the information for those animals The goal was to showcase the overall diversity in cranial ornamentation #sciart
An illustration featuring four species of meiolaniid turtles. Niolamia has large, frill-like horns, Ninjemys smaller horns with a very pointed nose. Warkalania is shown with a knobby but ultimately much more reduced cranial ornamentation while Meiolania has short, recurved horns resembling a cow

a trail camera-style image shows the following scene: during the afternoon in a South American rainforest, two sengi-deer of a smaller species forage amongst a somewhat open forest clearing, a glasswing butterfly of the species Greta excellens is seen in the foreground just infront of the sengi-deer individual closest to the trail camera

A New Age of Reptiles: Bristly Surf Shrew In the New Age of Reptiles, placentals are just one among many lineages of eutherians. Surf Shrews, initially misidentified as eulipotyphlans, are members of a large clade of mostly invertivorous mammals common in the Northern Hemisphere. (1/7)
A Bristly Surf Shrew, a chunky, desman-like mammal with a thick and roughly scaled tail and widely flaring nose. It has a grizzly fur pattern and a yellowish patch of skin surrounding the nostrils. A size comparison with a human hand shows it to be roughly the size of a hand with extended fingers. Text above reads "Bristly Surf Shrew"

To celebrate the announcement of my #specevo #dinosaur book this #FossilFriday, here's my giant Olymposaurus, a modern-day abelisaur. The proportions were predicted using real abelisaur scaling regimes: that short, upturned face, enormous thigh etc. are expected features of a 13 m abelisaur. #sciart
A huge carnivorous dinosaur with a short, deep face, tiny, handless arms and enormous muscled legs pins a juvenile long-necked dinosaur in a South American grassland. A large, deep gash on the constrained dinosaur hints at a wound on its abdomen, and blood on the snout of the carnivore suggests predatory activity. Other long-necks are visible in the distance, in front of a bank of clouds.

Rough-sketched idea of how these non-mammalian cynodonts may acquire a trunk-lip, through increasingly specialized browsing with a hardened, then lengthened upper lip that gets increasingly grippy and muscular. A bit of #specevo for my personal Kerguelen project. #worldbuilding #illustration
A rough black-and-white pencil sketch of a sequence of snout illustrations, all of non-mammal cynodonts with increasingly long and trunk-like upper lips, showcasing how Tritylodonts with non-flexible lips may develop something that looks like an elephant trunk (although the nostrils remain up near the base of the trunk).

On a scale of 1 - 10, how evil would it be to make several lineages of Enantiornithean birds diversify throughout the Cenozoic on Kerguelen, only to all be wiped out (plus or minus one small survivor) by cats and rats in the 1700s? #specevo #worldbuilding
Simple black-and-white pencil sketches of three fictional Enantiornithean birds in lateral view, for my spec-evo project of Kerguelen. The first is a hawk-like form with fully feathered legs, the second is a tiny fluffy orb that acts like a wren, and the third is a sort of upright-quail looking thing with a rounded head fully covered in fluffy feathers such that the beak isn’t visible (like cock-of-the-rock birds).

A New Age of Reptiles: Torpedo Crocs Marine reptile diversity in the New Age of Reptiles eclipses any time in Earth's history, with thousands of species documented to date across dozens of lineages. The crocodylids, early colonisers of the Cenozoic seas, are among the most spectacular. (1/14)
A Red-Eye Torpedo, a marine crocodile with a sea-green hide and tail marked by white bands. Its forelimbs have become broad fins, but its hindlimbs have been reduced to small spurs. Its armoured skin forms ridges down its trunk, creating a hydrodynamic profile. A human silhouette beside it shows it to be around 2.5 meters long. A Sawsnout Torpedo, a gigantic coastal sea crocodile in a tightly curled posture. Its long, green-banded hide is covered in rows of scute-ridges. The deep, hypocercal tail is packed with powerful muscles. The head rapidly narrows to a thin, sawfish-like snout lined with laterally projecting teeth. A human silhouette beside shows it to be about seven meters long.A Weeping Cr'orca, a massive sea crocodile. It has a deep, wedge-shaped snout lined with conical interlocking teeth. Its diamond-shaped forelimbs have a single claw, and its hide is a subtly countershaded purplish hue marked with scars and little injuries. A streak of white and yellow run down from the eye, breaking up the uniformity of its colouration. A size comparison with a human silhouette shows it to be about 13 meters in length.

My submission for Sawyer Lee’s #codexcontest, wherein much of the bones belong to a titanic terrestrial cetacean (descended from something Ambulocetid/Protocetid-like that went back to land). This beast would have been an all-consuming omnivorous browser, living in dense forests and swamps. #specevo
A black-and-white infographic of a fictional prehistoric animal, which is my submission for Sawyer Lee’s codex-contest featuring a jumble of very large fossils that need reconstructing. I’ve depicted it as a huge terrestrial basal cetacean, with long, columnar limbs and somewhat sauropod-like feet. The head is proportionately small and pointed and the neck and tail are both quite short. On the left side of the image are a skeletal reconstruction and life reconstruction, both in the same walking pose. On the right side are two smaller sketches, one showing the evolution of such a lineage and the other showing a predatory encounter between this land-whale and a similarly massive dragon.
