Took me longer than I thought it would (as hand sewing always does)(blanket stitch, my nemesis!) but I finished the Dodecaowl!
A stuffed toy owl made up of two fabric dodecahedrons sewn together, one for the body and the other for the head. The face is white with two orange eyes with large black pupils blanket stitched on, and a yellow felt beak

One annoying thing about crafting (or really any multi-step projects) with a mathematician brain is once I get everything set up and know how I'm going to complete it my mind just decides "ok, all done now - you've proved it *can* be done, no need to make it a *constructive* proof"

CHAPTER

1

The magic in that country was so thick and tenacious that it settled over the land like chalk-dust and over floors and shelves like slightly sticky plaster-dust. (Housecleaners in that country earned unusually good wages.) If you lived in that country, you had to de-scale your kettle of its encrusta-tion of magic at least once a week, because if you didn't, you might find yourself pouring hissing snakes or pond slime into your teapot instead of water. (It didn't have to be anything scary or unpleasant, like snakes or slime, especially in a cheerful household magic tended to reflect the atmosphere of the place in which it found itself-but if you want a cup of tea, a cup of lavender-and-gold pansies or ivory thimbles is unsatisfactory. And while the pansies-put dry in a vase-would probably last a day, looking like ordinary pansies, be-fore they went greyish-dun and collapsed into magic dust, something like an ivory thimble would begin to smudge and

crumble as soon as you picked it up.) The best way to do it was to have a fairy as a member of your household, because she (it was usually a she) could lay a finger on the kettle just as it came to a boil (absentminded fairies could often be recognised by a pad of scar-tissue on the finger they favoured for kettle-cleaning) and murmur a

Hummingbirds.
A four panel comic. In panel 1, a rufous hummingbird flies down toward a large hummingbird feeder with as many as 6 holes on top. He thinks "The humans put up a new feeder!" In panel 2, he lands on the feeder and gazes down at it. He thinks "It's huge. Many of us could feed here at once." In panel 3, we see a close up view of the hummingbird, and he's thinking "This could end the ancient rivalries. Usher in an era of peace. Interesting." In panel 4, an Anna's hummingbird hovers over the feeder and says "Hey, can I have some necta-" and the rufous hummingbird says "No."

New to me #bug in the yard just now: a white-tailed horntail, which looks like a huge-ass wasp but is actually not dangerous unless you’re a dead or dying conifer tree. This little lady (and I used the term “little” loosely) was well over an inch long

2 of my DnD group are getting married this weekend - the bride plays an ocean-themed dwarf Druid with a familiar named Rawn the Prawn, who has a tiny prawn-sized grappling hook; the groom plays a fairy Warlock with a corgi named Comet as a mount. Painted this as a card for them

Female birds with confusing names.
A six panel comic of female birds with confusing names, featuring a labeled portrait of each bird. In the first panel, there's a brown-headed cowbird with the label "entire body grayish-brown". In panel 2 there's a female red-winged blackbird labeled "orange-winged brownbird". In panel 3 there's a female black-throated blue warbler labeled "not-black throated" and "maybe some blue if you squint". In panel four there's a female scarlet tanager labeled "not scarlet" and "also, if we're being technical, not a tanager". In panel 5 there's a female red-cockaded woodpecker labeled "no red cockade" and "what even is a cockade?" and "don't worry about it". In the 6th panel there's a female northern cardinal labeled "mostly brown, despite being named for the red outfits worn by Catholic Cardinals" and "not allowed to become pope".
