Oh, there's a monster a woman turns into. But it is more of a samurai lobster (to use the term MST3K used to describe it) rather than a mermaid. And past life regression is a major plot point because that was trendy at the time.

The remake, while no masterpiece, is far better than the AIP original. Kinda a low-key opposite of the 1998 Carnival of Souls remake, which is a turd while the original is a deservedly considered a classic.

there are many reasons I think Night Watch is the best Discworld book it has some of Terry’s best character work, and sharpest social commentary, and tightest plotting, and getting to see the younger version of everyone is a blast and also it has maybe the best stupid pun he ever wrote

I certainly didn't enjoy it. I still watched it because I was not going to not make jokes about it, and I personally feel I need to be informed to make jokes about things. And that unfortunately means I have to watch stuff like Holmes and Watson at least once to be informed to my own standards.

I can deal with most bad movies any day of the week. Hell, I have to as a key part of my job. But bad comedies are the worst. Other bad films can be unintentionally funny, but bad comedies are, by definition, unfunny. Even bad family films at least have the decency to routinely be batshit insane.
