" In opening arguments, California’s lawyer compressed the theory into four words, noting Meta’s business model: - Hook users - Hold them - Harvest their data - Hide the harm" theconversation.com/changes-to-f...

Changes to Facebook and Instagram are key part of Meta’s $17B settlement with the states over harm to teens

Meta’s settlement calls for several key design changes to protect teens, but how the states will verify and enforce the changes is a big question mark.

In the endless cycle of depressing news, here’s something positive about humans and the natural world: A cormorant sought help at a hospital in Germany, pecking at the ER door after a hook got stuck in its beak. Thanks to the fire brigade and staff it was treated and set free tinyurl.com/93rbmnd9

A medical doctor removes a fish hook from the beak of a cormorant, while someone gently holds its head and beak during the rescue operation

I’m always moved by Robert Redford’s heartfelt narration of Norman Maclean’s "A River Runs Through It", especially the final fly-fishing scene: “Now, nearly all those I loved and did not understand in my youth are dead, even Jessie. But I still reach out to them.
