The TMS place also does Spravato but they told me outright that they tried to work with my insurance in the past and they’re so bad they refuse to even try to get them to cover ketamine anymore.

My insurance paid for TMS but I pay out of pocket for ketamine with BetterU. For the TMS I just had to show I was working with a psych PA and had been on 2 or more antidepressants in the past year.

I’ve done both ketamine therapy and TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) and the ketamine helps with the depression but the TMS was the only thing that put a dent in the anhedonia that was partially caused by prolonged benzo use, so you might want to consider TMS.

i've used this one in the past, and i like it, but i'm looking for something more like a cream. i thought this one spread really evenly, but was less on the moisturizing side.

well, AI is making product review sections completely useless. they prioritize their AI summary and encourage you to use their random-ass AI-generated categories to sort and filter. trying to sort by recency on amazon is a real challenge. guessing many of the reviews will be AI at some point as well

And some part of me does feel bad for the men and boys who really were just acting in accordance with society’s true feelings, which is that some human bodies are to be valued (straight white men) and some bodies are meant for service to the “important” people.

We’re steeped in a culture that treats violence towards women as un-serious on every level, then when our sons internalize this and act in accordance, we weep and wail like we don’t understand how we got here.

valerie @vfo.northsky.social · 04/10/2026
This is what we do as a society. We set up systems that inevitably result in harm by the way they’re designed, and then we blame individuals for the harm, throwing them under the bus so we don’t have to reckon with fixing the systems.

valerie @vfo.northsky.social · 04/10/2026
Men don’t face consequences for harming women, so why would anything change? It’s so fucking simple. We show what we care about as a society by what we punish and what we reward. We make our priorities so clear that even children understand it, and then we pretend to be confused.

I saw a Forensic Files once in which a woman who was being assaulted gouged the perpetrator’s eyes out and shoved them down his throat and while I do not generally advocate violence I think a few guys choking to death on their own eyeballs might really crystallize men’s ability to understand consent

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

My life’s mission is to get as into cutesy office supplies and stationary as I was picking out back to school supplies in the 2nd grade. It was the highlight of my year and a great notepad/pouch/pencil/eraser combo could bring me enough joy to carry me through the year.

My dad is allergic to everything, including poison ivy, to the point of getting weeping sores, and though I used to be pretty tolerant, as I get older, all my allergies have gotten progressively worse. I missed graduation this year due to a really bad poison ivy rash. It sucks.

i don't want to optimize everything in my life; i want to minimize the parts of my life that require optimization. personally, i'd rather we humanize the systems instead of forcing humans to adapt to the systems but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

it's so depressing how hard it is to get anything done. and i'm very lucky in that i have a dean who gives me as much autonomy as she can. but between IT and purchasing every department is forced to lock everything down and it makes doing ANYTHING next to impossible. i need a nap.

A surprisingly powerful sentence is "Take your time." To the cashier. The new employee. The person searching for the right words. The friend telling a difficult story. Not rushing someone is a form of kindness we don't talk about enough. 🧡

it's quite funny that i can't install notepad++ but administrators who don't understand how computers work are building AI agents and giving them access to all their systems.

Organizational psychologists, knowing what they know about the human brain and the dopaminergic system in particular, and what they know about working conditions inside the kinds of industries capitalism creates, should all be clinically insane. 🤔Is this what Severence was trying to tell me?!
110
valerie @vfo.northsky.social · 26/09/2026
I understand GLP-1s don’t affect dopamine release, just like the memory of it or whatever. But when I say you need to be careful with your dopaminergic system because it basically runs your productive life, I cannot stress it enough. And every lever you pull in your brain has rippling consequences.
010
valerie @vfo.northsky.social · 25/09/2026
But I don’t know enough about the science behind GLP-1s to know if anhedonia is a risk or not. It just worries me from what I know about how the brain’s reward systems work.

valerie @vfo.northsky.social · 25/09/2026
As a person who fucked up their reward system and spent years fixing it, let me tell you it’s pretty important for motivation/basic functioning.

Every time I hear how GLP-1 meds work, I get serious concerns about anhedonia as a potential side effect.
