They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

Been busy making this bookcase for our house! Walnut veneer plywood, 76" wide total, shelves supported with dados. Attached the backs (2 separate 1/4" ply pieces) today and working on some wood filler. Going to do some tung oil to finish and give it a darker appearance.

Twitter is a hell hole, of course, but it's sad to see so many people blindly defend an ICE agent who 1) is an absolute idiot for putting himself near the car, and 2) is so clearly at fault it's painful. I really hope that the state authorities can hold him accountable for murdering Renee.

Hey you! If you like JRPGs, you should check this one out! It's one of my favorite games of the year and has a lot to offer.

Not entirely sure why, but it's been cool anyway -- my Orphen: Scion of Sorcery (PS2) video has randomly gotten a ton more views over the last few weeks! I had a lot of fun making this one and felt a bit disheartened when it didn't do well, so a sudden surge is nice: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lFN...

Tomorrow morning will be a combination of things! Probably ~10am ET? * Ranking the new games I played this year (gotta undercut the Game Awards, right?). I played 12 new games, several big releases. Some hot takes. * Chrono Trigger playthrough continues with the Reptite Lair, then Magus Castle.

So, Constance (@constancegame.bsky.social ) is an awesome game so far, played for about 4.5 hours on stream and didn't want to stop 😅 really smooth gameplay, fun world to explore, a lot of secrets to find, cool upgrades and movement options so far. Definitely recommend it so far!

Vertz505 @vertz505.bsky.social · 25/10/2025

Genuinely one of the funniest hot takes I've ever read. Lists some of the best JRPGs on the PS2 and says "They are bad, actually" -- maybe you just don't like RPGs or something?

Vertz505 @vertz505.bsky.social · 03/09/2025

Finished Quartet from @somethingclassic.bsky.social -- very glad I got this one! It's a simple RPG, mostly linear, but with a combat system that allows from some nice combinations. It is fairly easy to create overpowered combos this way, but the core gameplay is fun, music is good, story satisfies!

Vertz505 @vertz505.bsky.social · 21/08/2025

Another four job fiesta done! Mastering red mage gives dual cast (2 spells in a turn). Time mage has quick, which gives two turns after casting. 2x quick and meteor (4 non-elem, random damage hits), then 2 of 2x meteor destroys all bosses in the final dungeon. Blue magic is top tier, as always.

Me a few days ago: 10:xx will probably be hard for me to get with current strats Me today: just kill the last boss quickly, sub-11 achieved! I still really dislike SMB2 as a game, but the run is fun, at least when it goes right 😅

First round of random capsule games are in! A few casual games came out first: Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP (replay after ~13 years lol) FF7 (the OG). Then, of course, my nemesis run appeared, courtesy of @gamertank.bsky.social -- SMB2! After some practice, I got a PB, will keep going!

My summer work schedule has finally settled down, so I can get back to streaming more often. And I have a new exciting thing - a capsule machine I won during Speedromizer! Tomorrow ~ 11am ET, I'm going to draw a random game and speedrun it or casually play it! I have an even mix of options.

Vertz505 @vertz505.bsky.social · 03/08/2025

Short version of my thoughts on the Tales of Elliot demo: * Game feels good! Combat is fun, exploration is fun. * Magicite and equipment combos will be fun to experiment with. * Music and audio in general is good. * Begging for a toggle for field commentary from the fairy. Far too much of it now.

Vertz505 @vertz505.bsky.social · 01/08/2025

Finished up my FFV Four Job Fiesta! Offline this year because summer is always a mess with work and trying to stream. Pretty easy run -- Black, Blue, Red mages, and Chemist to round it out. !Mix on a Black Mage is absurdly good. Final boss is very easy with this combo.
