[1/6] Excited to share our work on bioRxiv! bit.ly/47CryUl from @knoblich-lab.bsky.social. It has been a huge part of my life, through some hard years, so seeing it come together feels special. I’ve long been fascinated by networks—especially the most complex one we know: the brain.

New preprint! 🧠🧬 Can cerebral organoids reveal intrinsic rules of circuit assembly? We think yes! COSCO maps >10,000 networks and reveals cell-type intrinsic wiring, reproducible network formation, recurrent motifs, molecular signatures of wiring and aberrant connectivity in TSC. bit.ly/47CryUl

For the neural crest nerds: we love looking into transcriptional programs in single NCC cells. However, selective ribosomal modifications refine gene expression programs at a different scale. Here is our story about modified ribosomes in neural crest fate selection: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Ribosomal modifications are associated with mesenchymal fate selection in the neural crest lineage - Nature Communications
Neural crest cells differentiate into skeletogenic mesenchyme and neuro-glial lineages, thereby contributing to craniofacial formation. Here, single-cell analysis of cranial neural crest shows that sp...

Paying peer reviewers pays off. I’ve argued this for years, and a well-designed experiment now supports it: much faster reviews and better quality. As with open access, we’ll need to learn how to use the model well – and watch for unintended consequences. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Why paying peer reviewers works, according to a journal’s editor-in-chief
A biology journal that paid peer reviewers found that the approach cut the time to a first editorial decision by 85% and maintained high-quality reviews.

The Austrian gov. plans to cut university funding in 2028–2030 by ~-6%. Inflation heads to ~+4%. Our world & AT is changing ever faster (technology, society, the planet). To adapt, we need more education & research. #UnisRetten www.univie.ac.at/en/news/deta... www.univie.ac.at/aktuelles/un...
