The S4ME forum has started a thread for members to share stories of their ME/CFS journeys in up to 10 sentences: s4me.info/threads/your... The WE&ME foundation will ask some contributors if they can use their stories for advocacy. This is my story. Please consider sharing yours on @s4me.info
Once an academic scholar and keen sportsman, my ME/CFS symptoms came on suddenly in 1992 when I was a 19 year old student, following tonsillitis, suspected glandular fever and two courses of antibiotics. The transition from someone who was essentially well and able to participate in normal activities to someone who was very obviously unwell and incapacitated was marked and sudden. However, I suspect that there may have been something wrong with me prior to that as I had been unusually tired and prone to infections for a few years, along with unidentified problems in my knee and shoulder, which had limited my ability to run and play racket sports.

After struggling to live independently on and off for about 18 months, I returned to live with my parents fulltime in 1994. If I had known then what lay ahead, I would not have been able to cope, and I don’t know if I would still be alive. For about seven years I was almost completely bedridden, in excruciating discomfort, urinating into a bottle and eating meals in bed. Now aged 53 I am mostly housebound and cared for by my 80 year old mother in a wheelchair adapted annexe on the side of her house. One can be philosophical about loss and incapacity – about absence – but there is no philosophy that can overcome the presence of extreme physical discomfort and pain; of constantly feeling unwell. I am luckier than many people with my diagnosis in that some of my family and friends have been extremely supportive, and I have had some kind and helpful doctors, but like most people with ME/CFS I have also been let down, mistreated, ridiculed and abused, both personally and institutionally.

Love, solidarity and productivity, however limited, help to get me through the days, but I’m not sure that I could keep going without hope – hope of scientific understanding and a better quality of life.

As he was falling asleep tonight my son said "what if we started the whole world over but did it happier this time?" so if you need me I'll be crying about that indefinitely

The Shins were so fun tonight! Weezer was fun and creative despite the sound issues. There was probably a 40-50 year age range of fans within my vicinity and it was entertaining to see which songs different people got excited about. Highlight was my son screaming "this is the best day of my life"

**Lights Out Alert Sunday & Monday Nights** Birdcast is estimating 300-400 million birds will be in flight.
From meteorologist Eric Snitil

**Lights Out Alert Sunday & Monday Nights**

"Heads up birders, I would not be surprised if the biggest bird migration night of the year happens over the next 2 nights. Birdcast is estimating 300-400 million birds will be in flight. That is a lot, but the pattern could not be better for migratory birds. A massive area of high pressure will turn the low level winds from the northeast to the southwest across most of the US. The last time we had anything similar to this in the fall was early October last year when a record 1.25 billion birds were in flight. I doubt we get to that level, but I suspect the number will top 500 million especially Monday night which looks to be the bigger of the two nights. You can help by turning off those outdoor lights on big migration nights, and the next 2 nights is about as big as it gets."

There was a time a couple years ago when I thought fatigue was going to swallow me whole. And some days are still tough. But today I went to my first dance class (since college!) and I'm a bit achy but not exhausted. I don't know if I'll ever fully be back to my old self, but tonight I feel hope

This unlocked a memory! Near where I grew up there was "rocket park" that had a big play structure that looked quite a bit like this. You could climb up each level to the top and I think there was a slide to get down. It was metal and in full direct sun most of the day IIRC.

Pretty wild- if you used ASAP wildlife services in Minnesota and they told you an animal they removed did not have rabies, don’t count on it: “At least one customer has been told of negative results from a laboratory that does not perform animal rabies testing” 😳😳😳

This looked like a fun weekend read until I went on Pagebound to look at reviews and saw that the author thought it would be "funny" to hate on AI by...using chatgpt to write part of the book? (She describes this in the author's note as though it is righteous). Back it went to the library.
