Utter filth from Duolingo.
Screenshot of a Duolingo German lesson. A little cartoon pervert is boasting that his sausage is good. It's a 'hard exercise' apparently.

The Phantom of Heilbronn, also referred to as the Woman Without a Face, was a presumed female serial killer whose existence was inferred from DNA evidence found at 40 crime scenes across Austria, France and Germany from 1993 to 2009.

In March 2009, investigators concluded that the supposed serial killer did not exist, and the DNA belonged to a woman who worked at a factory that made the cotton swabs used for collecting DNA samples

FFS AI. Do you have to ruin everything?
The results of my daily Google to lead me to the Wordle site. It now includes the really fucking annoying AI overview with today's answer (blurred so as not to spoil it for others). Underneath that is a completely pointless set of 'clues' which is basically 3 of the letters plus a definition of the word just in case you can't see the actual fucking answer directly above it.

Let’s put it to the test: Comment “arrow” if you think he took an arrow to the eye. Comment “spear” if you think the guy in the embroidery was holding a spear (and Harold is being cut down by the cavalryman with a sword). Other suggestions welcome… #BayeuxTapestry #BattleOfHastings
A scene from the Bayeux Tapestry with a man on the left seemingly pulling an arrow out of his eye. A man in a horse in the centre who is attacking a man who is falling down. The words “Harold Rex interfectus est” are above, meaning King Harold is killed.

When you're a very famous person who brought nothing but joy and kindness to the world, someone who actually used their fame and wealth to benefit others, the world mourns your death. That's how you do it, that's how you live a life. RIP Dolly Parton.

According to my 1999 diary I took a day off work and watched the eclipse through a pair of £1.99 glasses while sipping a bottle of commemorative spring water.
A pair of Solar Eclipse Viewer glasses with a price tag of £1.99 from the co-op pharmacy and the label from a 500ml bottle of Devon Hills still spring water commemorating the solar eclipse. It reads, "a spring water to commemorate the solar eclipse on 11th August 1999. Bottled at source from a bore hole at a site recorded in the Domesday Book, 1086."

cool use case of chatgpt work i heard last night:
connect your family calendars and explain your kids' interests.
every morning for the drive to school, have it make a podcast that talks about one kid's soccer game that afternoon, one kid's upcoming birthday, some news, etc.

I was watching one of the many recent programmes about The Odyssey and the presenter commented that Homer never describes the sea as being blue. Am I right in thinking there wasn't actually a word for 'blue' in Ancient Greece? It's a loooong time since I did the OU's A295 Homer: poetry and society!
