Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 26/01/2026Hey. I gotta set up a script of some sort to post my tweets here because i always forget to 100
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 16/11/2025Uber price was $60 on my phone but $120 on my wife’s and I’m a feminist but it still stings. 130
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 21/10/2025Amazon would have no cohesive idea what to do with it, just like with MGM, and are also IMO the most likely to sell off the lot. 110
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 21/10/2025Netflix makes mostly awful movies. Buying Warner is admiting that (they’ve already been caving more and more lately on their quest to kill theatrical so I’m not worried as in the past they’d reduce Warner’s theatrical output.) 110
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 21/10/2025Apple’s been making high quality movies with good directors, so has Warner. Together they keep doing that but make fewer. Same with HBO and AppleTV. These work better as Coke and Pepsi. 110
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 21/10/2025Universal is a bigger theatrical player and I fear a combination with Universal cuts the number of releases in half like it basically did with Disney/Fox. Also Paramount Skydance probably puts Lassiter in charge of Warner Animation which would be interesting. (No hugs!) 110
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 21/10/2025I’d rather Paramount buy Warner than Universal I’d rather Netflix buy Warner than Amazon/Apple 160

Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 24/09/2025Some mixed news: I did not win the election for WGA Secretary-Treasurer but I did win the estate sale auction for Larry King's 1988 Cable Ace Award for Best Talk Show. 2221
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 04/09/2025Writers are constantly gaslit by business affairs (and even their own agents and managers) about how everyone at any specific level is only working for minimums…that’s never been true and never will be true and this guide provides up to date statistical proof of that. 020
Reposted by VanEdward James Almost @ed-james-almost.bsky.social · 03/09/2025I have no idea how many people this will reach, but Van has always been a solid #WGA choice. Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 03/09/2025I also want to make sure that, as the business models of the industry shift, we act nimbly as a guild to make sure the union and the members can be financially secure. 120
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 03/09/2025Writers who know me personally regularly reach out for help understanding their contracts, their WGA health insurance, and to hear my take on what the heck is actually going on in this business. I’d like to help the entire membership the way I help my friends. 120

Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 03/09/2025I’m running for guild office to ensure that members feel just as heard during this period of industry turbulence as they did during the strike. Solidarity is not something to rally for once every three years; it should be reflected in the support we feel from our union and each other all the time. 140
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 03/09/2025We successfully navigated the strike but new challenges have emerged. During this uniquely difficult time in our industry, many WGA members feel hung out to dry—without a job, unsure of what to do, and uncertain about what changes in our industry mean for their futures or the future of their union. 120
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 03/09/2025The 2023 WGA Strike was a difficult experience for all members, but also marked a high point in member solidarity & guild communication. When the strike ended, that communication stopped completely—and as a result, I’ve watched us grow more disconnected & allow our hard-earned solidarity to wither. 160
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 03/09/2025WGA CANDIDATES NIGHT is tonight at the WGA THEATER (not the headquarters). Please consider attending if you’re a member. You’ll get to hear from all the people who want to run your union (including me). Wednesday, Sept 3 6:00 p.m. Writers Guild Theater 135 S. Doheny Drive Beverly Hills, CA 90211 041

Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 06/06/2025The technology uses laser pulses of varying intensity and wavelength to encode the information into silica crystals. It is in the process of being commercialized but has yet to be functionally utilized outside of the lab…until Luther perfected it of course. 140

Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 14/05/2025It’s actually very simple: HBO is the real life astronaut that inspired the HBO Max toy. 0100
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 08/05/2025That’s why it’s important to email everyone you can. Email writers that like you. Email writers that barely know you. Email writers that you’ve disagreed with in the past. You might be surprised 020
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 08/05/2025I’m encouraging members to read ALL the materials provided before voting which is the first step. I think many of the flaws of the process reveal themselves self evidently if people put in the work. I trust writers to make up their own minds, I don’t trust they know this is worth consideration due. 120
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 08/05/2025I was just commenting on that concern because I didn’t want to leave it hanging out there unresolved since I brought it up. As for sending the email at all…it’s certainty not what I would have done, especially in the context of a board opting to not follow the prescribed constitutional process. 010
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 08/05/2025Okay it could be worded more clearly and could specify what the other charge is about but it does at least separate it out earlier in the email. 100
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 08/05/2025Does anyone have the rest of this email? I like Rob but I hope he isn’t lumping all of the cases together as he seems to be from the excerpt. One case is about an inappropriate image posted on Facebook. I don’t think the fact we were on strike has anything to do with why that image was inappropriate 120
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 07/05/2025Generally, yes. A union represents a specific trade like writing or pipe fitting, the employees of the union practice a different trade and would be represented by a different union. It would also be a conflict of interest for a union to represent its own employees. 010

Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 11/04/2025I don’t know anything about the other cases but if they went down at all like the one I worked on, you’d be wise to be very skeptical of the guild’s recommendations. 170
Van @vanthebrand.bsky.social · 11/04/2025I volunteered to help an autistic writer involved in one of the WGA disciplinary appeals currently before the membership. The sloppy, unprofessional way the guild handled itself during the process was very embarrassing to me as a member. 1152
