I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

I'm sick of the pretense that male homosociality isn't based in the veneration of violence against the vulnerable. I have seen the inside of men's "brotherhoods" and all they are is hierarchies of violence where anyone who doesn't support predatory behavior becomes a target of it.

good point! and i'm ignorant in the genre but: me slightly knowing SMT led me to better grasp pkmn r&g as making an RPG but with modern Japan and yōkai/obake instead of medieval Europe and trolls/dragons. and then that cultural knowledge leads me to contextualize stuff like DQ and Yo-kai Watch

also got a pet peeve where there's a gen 1 mechanic that they change in later games and people look back like "they based critical hit rate on SPEED?!?!" or "life before physical/special split?!" as if the modern games haven't kept gen 1 structures that are way more broken/constraining

4. starters - 4a. they're all fine, have fun - 4b. but ADIEU is terrible - 4c. the more interesting thing about a starter is the gamestates it leads to and how you slowly master certain "openings" - 4d. if you do care about having a good starter: play 1–2 good vowels and 3–4 good consonants. east

—– 3cii. vowel tier list: top: E > A still common: O > I common but you don't need to play them early: U > Y play one or two vowels at a time. that's usually enough. sometimes determining the placement(s) of ex. E is more important than playing a U. repeated vowel words will get you
100
/ˈfɑnəkuk/ @vannenkoek.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
anyway, if you have little consonant info, riffle through in tier list order, think about words like GRAND with four consonants or BLOAT with three if you have some consonant info, you might be able to play letters with specific synergies (e.g. K in a word with S) or test for placement
100
/ˈfɑnəkuk/ @vannenkoek.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
about half of wordle words with B have it in the first position. so it's a rich letter there's got to be something else going on though. F is first position–biased too and it's a lot worse than B. H is oddly bad. maybe commonly being in consonant clusters with T, S, etc. makes them too redundant.
100
/ˈfɑnəkuk/ @vannenkoek.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
idk exactly why it differs from list of letter frequency in english but it does. i suspect it has to do with both placement and combinations. i think you want letters with a 50/50 split between favorite position and all other positions
100
/ˈfɑnəkuk/ @vannenkoek.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
—– 3ci. consonant tier list: play first: TSRLCN often just as good: PD weirdly important: BGM if you have a concrete reason: FKHVW i never play these before the solution: ZQXJ some surprises here vs. lists of pure english letter frequency
100
/ˈfɑnəkuk/ @vannenkoek.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
- 3c. consonants. if you have no yellow or green consonants, you'll want to play moves with three or four of them with attention to letter frequency in general as well as common consonants around certain vowels and word shapes
100
/ˈfɑnəkuk/ @vannenkoek.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
- 3b. free calculate. sit and explore possible solutions. notice patterns: what vowel combinations? which consonants appear more often than expected? what shapes? can you see any whirlwinds coming? you can now just lay some of those letters down and it'll be a fine early move, but more specifics:

/ˈfɑnəkuk/ @vannenkoek.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
3. earlygame (gamestate with many remaining solutions where one disambiguating move cannot reliably set up a solve in 2) - 3a. a good earlygame move sets up a good endgame. what words can we play to create the conditions we just reflected about in 2c?
100
/ˈfɑnəkuk/ @vannenkoek.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
with strong play you typically reach endgame on (before) move 3. with poor luck or mistakes it may be on move 4 or 5. with good luck, move 2 and sometimes your earlygame move happens to brush away all but one or two possible solutions. that's part of the game, too
100
/ˈfɑnəkuk/ @vannenkoek.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
- 2c. reflection. what conditions create an endgame's restricted solution set (key greens; key yellows/grays and what they eliminated; vowels and consonants and what they tell you about word shape; anything rare or surprising; what letters did you wish were already played)
100
/ˈfɑnəkuk/ @vannenkoek.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
- 2b. common gamestates/tactics: —– i. whirlpools —– ii. process of elimination (don't need to play a letter to know it's there) —– iii. a guess can disambiguate the other guesses —– iv. replaying a letter to check for placements/repetitions (checking for initial C or H in _ATCH)
100
/ˈfɑnəkuk/ @vannenkoek.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
2. endgames (gamestates with ~3–12 remaining possible solutions) - 2a. play "approach"/disambiguating moves. like preparing checkmate with a move that isn't check. best shown with gamestates like _ATCH (i call these "whirlpools") where a move like BLIMP/CLIMB clearly sets you up better than guessing
100
/ˈfɑnəkuk/ @vannenkoek.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
skill building 1. see lots of possible remaining solutions - 1a. speed (pattern recognition, remembering common word shapes) - 1b. discipline (keep looking even after dopamine hit of seeing a first possible solution; remembering to check for repeated letters, rhymes)
100
/ˈfɑnəkuk/ @vannenkoek.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
i was reading reddit comments from a chess teacher who maintains that calculation is the main skill; that's what underlies the higher-minded principles of play. similar thing maybe with wordle. you gotta be able to see a lot of possible remaining solutions
