Today is World Mental Health Day. At this link, there are two tip sheets: how to talk about your own mental health, and how to listen to someone who is talking to you about their mental health. There are things that we, as a society, too often fail to do effectively. Please take a look.

This is a disgrace. Brave RNLI volunteers being called scum for risking their lives to save others at sea is just plain wrong. So I've signed an open letter of thanks for the RNLI letting them know these thugs do not speak for the rest of us. Add your name?

I encourage you (and literally everyone) to dig into Dolly Parton's music. And not just the classic country, she made some remarkable bluegrass and a fair amount of well-liked gospel music. She can do EVERYTHING, from powerful ballads to the saddest songs you've ever heard. A generational talent.

Instead of doing a whole thread to share my thoughts on Dolly Parton, here's my Facebook post where I share how I will remember this legend.

I'll admit that I'm not that familiar with Dolly Parton as a country music artist. I don't follow the genre and outside of 9 to 5, I don't really know a lot of her songs.

However, what I do know about Parton and what I'll remember her best is her philanthropy. From her Dollywood Foundation, to her Imagination Library that help provide children to have books to read, to her support for human rights like for the LGBTQ+ community and women, to protecting bald eagles, to her donations for medical research, including for one of the COVID vaccines, to helping out disaster reliefs, and many more.

Just like Ms. Rachel, Parton is an example of using her Christian faith for good to help those in need and make the world feel like a better place to live when there's people like Dolly who dedicated her life and fame to uplift those that are less fortunate. Even without counting her contribution to the music industry, It's her kindness and empathy that made her a legend.

Have a good rest, Dolly Parton. You deserve to have peace after everything you've done for us. The only thing we can do to return the favor is follow your lead in your honor.

She supported the literacy of young Spanish-language readers at a time when Spanish and Spanish-speakers were increasingly being demonized in politics. imaginationlibrary.com/bilingual-pr...

Deeply saddened by the news of Dolly Parton’s death. In Scotland, her Imagination Library inspired a love of reading and provided thousands of free books for children. Her warmth, generosity and her music were truly one of a kind. My thoughts are with her family and friends.

Dolly Parton is gone. 🥺🥺 Dolly Parton's father couldn't read. So she started mailing free books to children, every month, until they turned five, and never charged a family a dime for it. That's the legacy. Rest easy, Dolly.

Dolly Parton used her wealth - often without spotlight - to fund children's literacy efforts, give away millions of free books, fund the COVID vaccine and an entire children's hospital, secretly bankroll Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and support LGBTQ+ rights. The world is a dimmer place without her.
