This scene is iconic. I think the first Ant-Man movie tried to copy it in its final fight, but it just fell flat

✋🏻 that’s me. I’m going into ministry and have a background in ecology, which is to say: I love the very concept of ‘life’ and all that life can do and be. The idea of simulating life for the purpose of tricking people into thinking they’re interacting with a living thing, is morally repugnant.

I'm not a Libertarian (because I'm no longer 14), but i put myself in the mind of an Ayn Rand acolyte for this quiz. 9 states would let me start a school with no experience, no tests, no core curriculum, etc. See where you can open your dream academy: projects.propublica.org/private-scho...
You could open NextGen Free-Range Academy in Texas and eight other states.
Your school’s name comes from your answers to Question 3, “No. I want the freedom to teach whatever I see fit, whether it’s Scripture or homesteading,” and Question 10, “Cool tech words like ‘NextGen.’”

@goingmedieval.bsky.social weird medieval question! My understanding is that medieval Europeans had some ideas about what “paganism” was, but that (almost) all pagans were wiped out hundreds of years before. So, where did the common medieval understanding of paganism come from?

While Brooklyn Nine-Nine is certainly copaganda, it is also objectively better than any cop "drama" and the second-best Mike Shur sitcom

A lot of fish can be labeled as "sea bass", so until I hear otherwise I choose to believe that trump was served Toadstool Groper.
Headline of an AP article that reads, "Trump's state dinner for Xi features sea bass and a long list of tech titans"a picture of a red fish resting on some rocks on the bottom of the ocean. It is a Trachypoma macracanthus, also known as a Toadstool Groper.

I mean, unless we're using the definition that violence intended to inspire terror isn't terrorism if a state does it, this is just kinda true AQ is (in large part due to regular and continuing US violence in the GWOT) kinda chilling in the backwaters most places

The right has done this—very successfully—for at least a decade. Whether you like Piker or not he’s not spouting nonsense. What he’s doing is useful and strategic

Ian @uudude.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
One way, I think, so see Piker is as an Overton-window-shifter. He has a platform and uses it to say things that are very leftist, and some might even see as extreme. That creates drama and so gets media coverage, and those ideas gradually begin to seems less radical as people are exposed to them

I think it's good to keep getting mad about evil and unjust things, if only to remind yourself and everyone else that these things are in fact evil and unjust. I don't think it's naive. Nor is it wise and sophisticated to adopt a "You fool, nothing matters and nothing good can ever happen" posture

just speculating, but you gotta wonder if they're trying to build a pretense—that their tech is too dangerous to not be under USG control—so the USG will invest in/buy/bail out the company before the AI bubble pops in this increasingly precarious market (and possibly taking the whole economy w/ it)

It's interesting how their story frames them as both antagonist and protagonist. Just as people are beginning to question whether Silicon Valley is the center of the world, suddenly a new narrative pops up that happens to frame them and their work as the only thing that really matters.
