The youngest person his pager attack killed was 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah, who had just started 4th grade. The pager was on a table when it went off and she picked it up to take to her dad. It exploded in her face and reports said it covered the room in her blood. She wanted to learn English.

Kids will find a way. Specially teens flirting. Working in an edtech company I learned how everything was fair game. Lecture comment section, Docs/notes, Canvas with scribbling support when text and audio isn’t available. Symbols and glyphs when you try to limit phone numbers with regex. Everything

YouTube premium’s India pricing ₹149 /month (1.4€) by the way, is what it should be everywhere. Maybe 5€ for PPP and if we’re being generous. What are they charging 15€ for? They don’t even produce the content like Netflix. Storage is still cheap (at least for them)

Usama Sulaiman @usaa.ma · 21/09/2026

Guess I should thank youtube’s exploitative pricing to help me rid the youtube addiction. Wouldn’t let me continue the Indian subscription anymore, so uBlock origin + firefox on the desktop it is. No app on the phone, no offline downloads, no auto PIP that Arc gives. That should actually help.

Depending on if you were using them, you’ll probably miss the relay that lets you continue on the phone most. There are tmux-ian solutions out there that hook in to your ssh (or mosh) sessions with different apps and or pwa’s but i haven’t found one that have as good a ux as the frontier labs’

Hi @buttondown.com, my account got temporarily disabled for some reason. I have submitted an appeal form. Would appreciate if someone could take a look. I publish on a schedule and this came as a surprise right at the time of publishing.

Who do you want performing at halftime? Answer: Yes

Usama Sulaiman @usaa.ma · 18/07/2026

Weird that youtube is recommending right-wing content and creators to me. Hooks me in with ‘how social media has made you a slave’ or something like that, then the very next video hits me with ‘how immigrants are eating our cats’ I am like, guy, I am the one you are warning me about.

I like the idea of being a PDS host with high storage limits, but maybe this becomes an option at a later point after validating the demand. Thanks though, I always somehow understood that smaller blobs are a limitation from the at-proto spec and not a PDS enforcement

I thought in the blob direction a little bit, and potentially one could store a bunch of small blobs and then stitch them all together through a stream aggregator or something. But this is will likely prove to be very bad/hard for a bunch of reasons

In my case, yes another platform could potentially fetch and re-upload the files (because rss) but I wonder if somebody has some radical ideas around large files in general

000

Are there ideas on storing large files like audio/video which are outside of storing things in s3/r2 and adding a link in the record. I am building a podcast hosting platform and this part still really seems like a part where users can get locked in

Read somebody calling the Iran war ‘the weekend war’ and there couldn’t be a more appropriate description at this point. Attack Friday evenings after markets close, announce talks are in progress by Sunday evening before the markets open. Great!!

Also, after the switch to token based pricing, there is simply no way to know either in vscode, or intellij what percentage of allotted tokens one has used. Why? Why would you do this?

Github’s enterprise level Copilot usage control and policy settings are/is the most confusing piece of UX I’ve ever seen. It is hard to imagine there is a design team behind this.
