It's publication day for Some Essays by Heinrich von Kleist (trans. @unpaginated.bsky.social) and Vaucanson's Canard by @geoliminal.bsky.social. Incidentally, Kleist founded his daily newspaper, the Berliner Abendblätter, on this day in 1810.

I was quite nervous about this review, how it would be received, and I procrastinated on it, to be honest, but the reception has been great, and I'm grateful that so many readers have picked up on the nuances of Sebald's life and career that I tried to get across.

This is increasingly true of weird studies(tm) that just use the fiction as case studies for ontology or climate change. Writing about weird fiction should be poetics as much as it is anything else

Cute red paperbacks on a black and white herringbone cloth. Titles include Logbook of Giannozzo the Balloonist by Jean Paul (tr. David Dollenmayer), Biographical Recreations from the Cranium of a Giantess by Jean Paul (tr. by Genese Grill and anon), Maria Wutz by Jean Paul (tr. by Francis & Rose Storr and Ruth Martin), and Two Stories by Jean Paul (tr. by Alexander Booth and Matthew Spencer). These gorgeous books are from the Empyrean Series by Sublunary Editions. A sliver of a yellow German-English dictionary peeks out on the right.
