Causeway Pride is appalled by the scenes of violence, intimidation and destruction witnessed following tonight's demonstrations.

Homes have been attacked. Property has been damaged. Families have been left frightened in their own communities. Streets have been turned into arenas for mob violence. There can be no excuses, no caveats, and no attempts to dress this up as legitimate protest. It was not. It was criminality.

What makes tonight's events even more infuriating is that they were entirely foreseeable.

Previously, we called for calm, restraint and respect for due process. Many others did the same. Yet as tensions rose, some political representatives chose not to lead but to follow. Some chose not to calm fears but to amplify them. Some chose not to challenge dangerous rhetoric but to indulge it.

Leadership is not standing in front of a camera after the damage is done and expressing concern. Leadership is using your voice before the violence starts.

Too many elected representatives failed that test.

At a moment when communities needed reassurance, responsibility and clear calls for restraint, we instead saw grievance elevated above responsibility and political calculation placed ahead of community safety. Those who spent time fuelling anger and then express shock at the consequences should reflect carefully on the role they have played.

We are also deeply concerned by attempts to use these events to target entire communities, sow division, and roll back years of progress towards a more inclusive and cohesive society. There are those who see every crisis as an opportunity to create fear, identify scapegoats and pit neighbour against neighbour. They should be called out for exactly what they are doing.

Northern Ireland knows where this road leads. We know the cost of allowing rumours to spread unchecked, of allowing fear to become hatred, and of allowing political cowardice to masquerade as leadership. We have paid that price before. We should not be payi…

Today representatives of the National LGBT + and Women's committees met to continue our discussions regarding the Supreme Court ruling on the
FWS vs Scottish Government case, and the consultation currently being undertaken by the EHRC, the statutory body for upholding the Equality Act.
We have been speaking to and hearing from women and trans members in a broad spectrum of workplaces, across the UK, gathering evidence and feedback about members' feelings and experiences following the ruling.
We understand the fear and uncertainty that this ruling has created for some workers, and we want to reassure our women & trans members that Unite The Union will always fight for the rights for all workers, both in and out of the workplace. Confidential advice sent to members of the National Executive Committee recommends that they cancel the event in order to avoid legal action and political embarrassment. The document sets out that the “only legally defensible alternative” would be to limit the event to biological women, but does not explain why this is not the preferred option.

LABOUR is set to postpone its women’s conference as the party descends into chaos over the Supreme Court trans ruling.

Confidential advice sent to members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) recommends that they cancel the event in order to avoid legal action and political embarrassment.

The advice notes that Labour’s “positive action” policies, of which the conference is a part, have until now operated on the basis that biological men can be included if they selfidentify as women. It states that such positive action policies including allwomen shortlists will have to be on the basis of biological sex rather than gender identity.

The UK Data (Use and Access) Bill is currently being debated in Parliament and anti-trans campaigners are trying to amend the Bill so it requires public authorities to collect data about 'biological sex' (see below). 🚨 THIS NEEDS TO BE OPPOSED 🚨 publications.parliament.uk/pa/bills/cbi...

The amendment reads:

To move the following Clause—

“Directions to public authorities on recording of sex data (1) The Secretary of State must, within three months of the passage of this Act, issue regulations relating to the code of practice set out in section 49 of this Act which require public authorities to—

(a) collect, process and retain sex data only where it is lawful to do so in accordance with data protection legislation;

(b) request and record sex data accurately, in every circumstance where sex data is collected, in accordance with following category terms and definitions—

(i) ”Sex” meaning male or female only based on “sex at birth”, “natal sex” or “biological sex” (these terms carrying the same meaning and capable of being used interchangeably); and, (ii) in addition, where it is lawful to do so in accordance with data protection legislation and the Gender Recognition Act 2004, “Acquired Gender” meaning male or female only, as recorded on a gender recognition certificate issued in accordance with the Gender Recognition Act 2004.

BREACH OF EUROPEAN CONVENTION ON HUMAN RIGHTS - ARTICLE 8
You have challenged my use of facilities appropriate to my gender.
I am aware of the UK Supreme Court ruling in For Women Scotland v Scottish
Ministers (2025] UKSC 16.
However, this ruling is incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights which the UK ratified in 1951, in particular Article 8 'Respect for private and family life'.
This was decided in the case of Goodwin v UK [2002] 35 EHRR 447 which provided that contracting states must have an effective method of acknowledging gender-change.
If you are to continue to deny me use of facilities appropriate to my gender I will require your name, the name of your organisation and details of the policy or instruction you are following as the denial is likely to be the subject of litigation.
