Göttingen University: eleventh in Germany UK’s Times Higher Education #THE put our Uni in 11th place in Germany in their recent World University 2027 ranking. The analysis includes ratings of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook: www.uni-goettingen.de/en/3240.html...

Photograph of the University’s main administrative building in Wilhelmsplatz. Known in German as the Aulagebäude as it houses the University’s Aula (Great Hall). The image shows a cream building with decoration as pillars on the front. There are stairs leading up to the main door and figures carved into space beneath the roof. The area in front is manicured garden with flowers and trees, old-style lamps and benches.

Delaying blossoming to protect harvests? Many fruit trees flower earlier due to climate change. Researchers studied how damage from late spring frosts to blossoms might be avoided in sweet cherry and apple: www.uni-goettingen.de/en/3240.html?id=8287 Research in #BMCPlantBiology: doi.org/rqqk

Photo shows lead researcher, Dr Wiebke Kämper, in a yellow protective coat and wearing blue-green gloves. She is on the left hand side of the photo applying the treatment to sweet cherry trees during the field trial in Lower Saxony, Germany. The rest of the picture (left hand side) shows green leaves on cherry trees, orchard and sky. Thanks to Wiebke for the image.

The photo shows an orchard of cherry trees. The treated sweet cherry trees (left) are flowering later than untreated trees (right), showing the effect of the treatment on the timing of blossoming. The ground looks lush and green. Thanks to Dr Wiebke Kämper for the image.
