Something has been missed in the Palestine recognition talk in New Zealand. We know Seymour has been holding back recognition, but Peters has as well. To win the last election, he courted the conspiracy theorist vote, sucking the life out of other small parties. One of which was New Conservatives.

The fluoride bill is a big blow to the "freedom" movement NZ First supporters. Fluoride Free's Mary O'Brien is a NZ FIrst member, and they used that bill in their local body election questionnaire. It shows that these bills only to make supporters feel they are doing something when they aren't.

There seems to be a push to keep it this way too. Phillip Crump, who is part of the takeover efforts at NZME, wants less reporting on truth in favour of balance. That diminishes the ability to talk about consequences.
When journalists chase “the truth”, the first thing that is sacrificed is ‘balance’. Indeed many journalists now regard ‘balance’ with some scepticism, considering that it can lead to giving undue prominence to information that conflicts with “the truth”. Rather than ‘balance’ this is instead called ‘bothsidism’ which journalists aim to avoid by selectively amplifying viewpoints that support “the truth” while marginalising others. This rejection of ‘balance’ stifles debate and signals a preference for advocacy over fairness. Informed readers can, of course, recognise this tactic and they lose confidence in a newspaper as an impartial source of information as a result.

NPANZ, an Australian rightwing nurses union brought to New Zealand by Voices For Freedom Wairarapa Coordinator Deborah Cunliffe, has lost its NZ executive team, including Deborah. The executive team comprised members of the anti-vax group Nurses For Freedom, which Cunliffe started in June 2022.
Stuff article that reads:

July 14 2023:

Aussie-backed anti-mandate union trying to recruit Kiwi nurses

An Australian network of anti-mandate “unions” boasting more than 17,000 members has expanded to Aotearoa, establishing its own nurses’ union.

When Stuff first approached the Nurses Professional Association of New Zealand (NPANZ) it claimed to be a union, but was not registered as one under the Employment Relations Act. However, it has since gained registration as NZ Nurses United Incorporated.

The group is led by Nurses For Freedom founder Deborah Cunliffe, who publicly called for mandates for unvaccinated nurses to end. She was also a member of anti-vax group Voices For Freedom. The other union officers are Sarah Gilbertson and Saskia Rietveld.
