It's starting to feel like the Liberal government of New Brunswick floated the preposterous ideas of merging institutions and privatizing others to deflect from the vicious cuts they seek to impose. Universities need more from government, not less. That's the whole story.

At UNB, professors and students were surveilled for Palestine solidarity because, per campus security, the university is the President’s “house.” “If I tell my kids my kids you can’t do this, I don’t need to write it down… He’s the President and he can set the rules.”

Last year our faculty association had a THREE HOUR meeting to debate why we should boycott/divest/sanction a country that is actively committing genocide. It was not a great day to be an academic. And I won’t ever stop pushing us in higher ed to practice the values we teach.
