They tightened the cargo tie-down strap until it pulled the two bars of the fence it was attached to closer together. That widened one side of where the kid was trapped so his head would fit through to be removed.

You've seen fireworks that look like jellyfish, but what about a jellyfish that looks like fireworks? The E/V Nautilus filmed this rare Halitrephes maasi jellyfish glowing like a firework at a depth of 4,019 feet (1,225 meters) off the coast of Baja California, Mexico. (📷: Ocean Exploration Trust)

Ozempic (and presumably other GLP1s) is practically a miracle drug for some people. My wife went from 33 units of insulin a day to NONE, They finally took her off Ozempic & she's doing OK on just metformin. Her A1C is higher than normal but that is evidently a desirable thing in her age range.

My sister lived in Queen Anne and it was lovely. Walkable to shops. Several traffic calming strategies. Not great parking unless you've some kind of driveway (they had a parking pad off the back alley). There was an overlook we walked to 4 July. Panoramic view of the fireworks and space needle.

Multiple studies have shown that universal health care would be CHEAPER than what we have now. Which makes sense when you think of how much duplicative effort we're paying for.

Republicans know that too, but they also know this is something they can make Dems flinch and equivocate about, which makes them look overall weak and indecisive. They did it with immigration last cycle, they did it with gay marriage 20 years ago. The only way to win is to tell them to eat shit

Random question. Do you own a copy of The Silent Miao by Paul Gallico with photographs by Suzanne Szasz? Because if you don't you really need to. (Ours is in a plain brown wrapper so the cats wouldn't realize what it is. It's one of the very few books that survived the Great Purge when we moved.)

Ages ago, my wife worked in a school. One of the teachers would THROW AWAY the milk cartons the day before the sell-by date. No amount of Wife telling this person what the SELL-by date meant stopped the waste. Finally the principal put a stop to it and we went back to buying milk.

The Second World War rapidly mechanised and industrialised the English countryside. The new face of farming became machines. Meanwhile, the traditional practices, tools, and knowledge that sustained communities for centuries faced becoming obsolete.
