Story time! I was once at an SCA demo where a fellow SCAdian earnestly told some poor hapless parent that the reason shirts of chain armor were missing parts under the arms had nothing to do with the reaction of iron to sweat. No. They would put GOLD rings there! 1/n
The Rule of Cool is also hugely important here. For instance, in Iliad 6.230–236, the Akhaian hero Diomedes and the Trojan hero Glaukos trade their armors as a sign of guest-friendship, and the armor that Glaukos gives to Diomedes is made of solid gold. No one in human history has ever actually gone to battle wearing solid gold armor, because gold is an absurdly impractical material to make armor out of; it is extremely rare and expensive, it’s extremely heavy, so it would make the wearer less mobile, and it’s very soft and malleable, so it wouldn’t provide the wearer very effective protection. But none of that matters, because solid gold armor sounds cool.

I've emptied a plastic wheeled cart with drawers and put all Wife's and my daily pills in there so it looks tidier than the random bags on the floor. Nota bene: Ask the pharmacy to put pills in the SHORT bottles. cont

“If I gave you a bowl of skittles and three of them were poison would you still eat them?”

“Are the other skittles human lives?”

“What?”

“Like. Is there a good chance. A really good chance. I would be saving someone from a war zone and probably their life if I ate a skittle?”

“Well sure. But the point-”

“I would eat the skittles.”

“Ok-well the point is-”

“I would GORGE myself on skittles. I would eat every single fucking skittle I could find. I would STUFF myself with skittles. And when I found the poison skittle and died I would make sure to leave behind a legacy of children and of friends who also ate skittle after skittle until there were no skittles to be eaten. And each person who found the poison skittle we would weep for. We would weep for their loss, for their sacrifice, and for the fact that they did not let themselves succumb to fear but made the world a better place by eating skittles.

Because your REAL question…the one you hid behind a shitty little inaccurate, insensitive, dehumanizing racist little candy metaphor is, IS MY LIFE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF MEN, WOMEN, AND TERRIFIED CHILDREN…

… and what kind of monster would think the answer to that question… is yes?”

"There's no grays, only white that's got grubby. I'm surprised you don't know that. And sin, young man, is when you treat people like things. Including yourself. That's what sin is."

"It's a lot more complicated than that--"

"No. It ain't. When people say things are a lot more complicated than that, they means they're getting worried that they won't like the truth. People as things, that's where it starts."

"Oh, I'm sure there are worse crimes--"

"But they starts with thinking about people as things..."

I am (very belatedly) ordering eclipse glasses for next Monday. I was a bit unsure if these ones were really ISO certified or fakes. I'm going with real based on these (one star!) reviews. Eclipse glasses that are all black! Who'd-a-thunk-it??!
First review: Blacked out lens
Can not see through the lens. They are like blackout lens.

Second review: These are useless
I am very disappointed in these. I bought 3 of them and they don't work. All you see is black. You cant see anything through them.

Pretty sure they didn't. Viruses are tiny. They don't weigh much.
Since COVID-19 is transmitted through contact with respiratory fluids carrying the infectious SARS-CoV-2 virus, a person can be exposed by an infected person coughing or speaking near them. They can also be exposed by inhaling aerosol particles that are spreading away from the infected person. Transmission of COVID-19 from inhalation of virus in the air can occur at distances greater than six feet. Particles from an infected person can move throughout an entire room or indoor space. The particles can also linger in the air after a person has left the room – they can remain airborne for hours in some cases. Someone can also be exposed via splashes and sprays of respiratory fluids directly onto their mucous membranes. Spread may also sometimes occur through contact with contaminated surfaces, though this route is now considered less likely.
