I’ve worked in the superior court system for decades and you would amazed at what the judges wear underneath their robe. As to the tennis shoes many judges wear them. I worked with one judge who wore crocs, Khakis shorts and Hawaiian shirts or tee shirts. A lady judge wore her workout clothes.

The voters overwhelmingly approved this in 1990, even though Thomas Bradley was Mayor at the time Richard Riordan was the largest financial backer for the ballot measure and he became Mayor in 1993.
