NO CITY SHOULD HAVE RURAL AREAS.

Rural residents are already over-represented. No city should even have rural residents. They'd have a stronger voice if they were offloaded to neighbouring municipalities. (Is this man trying to lose my vote?)

Two people definitely do not recognize this: 1) perpetual failed Conservative candidate Rob Dekker and 2) one-term mayor Mark Sutcliffe.

These traitorous goofs offered up our FRESH WATER????? Full exposé on these idiot Alberta separatists here: archive.is/rhGUj
Excerpt from the Globe article reads: “A Globe and Mail investigation has found that Republican political operatives were on the ground in Alberta this year to assist the separatist campaign in its bid to leave Canada, while harbouring their own aspirations for the province to secede.
The Globe also found that when Alberta separatist leaders went to Washington to meet with the U.S. State Department, they offered up key assets from the province's resource portfolio, including access to fresh water and royalties on crude oil, in exchange for help transitioning to independence.
Through interviews with The Globe on both sides of the border, people involved in politics, the corporate sector and Alberta's pursuit of separatism have described persistent efforts by figures in the U.S. administration and conservative political establishment to support groups seeking American expansionism and independence for Alberta.”

Why, it is almost as if this is the sort of blatantly unconstitutional anti-Indigenous horseshit we'd have expected from Pierre Poilievre. Summing up much of Carney's time as PM so far.

Mainly because the City doesn't have the power to do it. The Province has to do it. A referendum would be to send a message that we think amalgamation was a mistake.

Yes, I know the City can't de-amalgamate itself. But we can send a message to Queen's Park that we think amalgamation was a mistake.

I don't disagree but in a backwoods town like Ottawa the 'raise everybody's taxes' faction loses every time. A smarter position might be 'tax the stupidly rich'.

typzk @typzk.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
If I was running for mayor of Ottawa, I would propose a referendum: status quo or de-amalgamation. It really is the only question that matters in this "city".

Will I vote for Leiper? Yes. Am I enthusiastic about him? Not really, no. Will things get worse if he's mayor? Not intentionally. Will he stand up to OPS? Not likely. Will he be better than Sutcliffe? Of course. Will he offer any bold ideas? Nope. Do I think you should vote for him? Yes I do.
