The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

Sep 1988: Telephone Service ad from British Telecom «If you've seen red over the last few days, ignore it.»
An advertisement for British Telecom apologizes for overdue billing notices. They offer assistance with any bill disputes, encouraging customers to call the enquiry number listed, whatever the colour.

If you've seen red over the last few days, ignore it.

Due to the backlog of mail caused by the postal dispute, we would like
to apologise to anyone who has paid their phone bill and still received a red
reminder.
However, if you still have a bill outstanding, you can pay at your bank,
any British Telecom shop, district office or even your local post office, until
things return to normal.
If you do have any queries, please don't hesitate to ring the enquiry
number on your bill, whatever colour it is.
It's you we answer to.

AI doesn’t understand vanishing points, paper sizes, or lettering. Still easy for typographers to spot AI slop at first glance! Type, on the other hand, has improved somewhat. No reason to be smug, though. It shouldn’t amuse but worry us that people honestly discuss the authenticity of this pic.
Non-copyrightable AI slop picture about a soliciting sheep at some kind of Irish diner with questionable internal logic.

I mean, do they yank the sign out of the drawer, rush to the door, and put it up whenever the sheep shows up? Then they take it down again once the sheep is left? Or are we supposed to believe that the (perfectly symmetrical) sheep hang out on the patio for hours on end, despite the fact that they ostensibly “live on the farm across the road”? And no one has taken care of the situation yet, making sure the animals don’t run onto the road all the time?

If you make the effort to typeset and print such a sign, wouldn’t you rather start with ”If you see a sheep outside, don’t open the door!” instead of “This is Barbara”?

People are way too gullible, that’s why AI undermines all sensible online discourse, guzzling up the fresh water reserves of the entire planet, heating up the atmosphere and generally making life miserable fo all of mankind. It’s easier to click like and repost instead of reflecting.

If you feel smug reading this, stop right there. This applies to all of us. You, too, have fallen into that trap and liked or shared some piece of AI slop. Of course, you didn’t notice. Instead of looking down at boomers that repost ridiculous sharepics like Barbara’s (thus further dividing the community at large), we should unite and stand against AI, together, with compassion, empathy, and purpose.

The house makes the landscape. The landscape makes the house. Nothing means anything alone.
PHOTO by Yogendra Singh. A lone red house rests quietly atop a sunlit hill, surrounded by rolling green slopes that stretch gently toward the horizon. Above, a single fluffy white cloud floats in a clear blue sky, casting no shadow, only presence. The scene is open and still, with no signs of people or movement, only a winding dirt path in the foreground tracing through the soft terrain. The house’s vivid color contrasts against the natural earth tones, anchoring the viewer’s gaze in the vast and quiet landscape.
